Silver Springs - Live or Studio?

Which to you guys prefer. I THINK I like the live version better. This is rare for me...I really hate live versions of anything. But the guitar solo (IMHO) is better in the live version. Also the live version (which I heard first...it's the version that made me fall in love with the song...maybe I'm biased) is a little slower which seems to go with the feel of the song.

The studio version is still cool. It should have been on Rumours. What do you all think?

Because I heard the original one first that is the one I must say is my favorite. Back in 1987, I had my favorite radio station find the B-side and play it for me and the DJ had never heard it before and thanked me for bringing it to his attention.

If you just take into consideration the vocals - I like the studio version better. The version on the Best of FM that is remastered is so awesome - the passion in Stevie's voice is so unbelieveable at the end of the song. The forcefulness in her voice is unlike any other song, in my opinion.

However, the video performance from The Dance is so awesome that it gives me chills to this day. The vocal reminds me of the video (which I love), but apart from that, it is just OK.

The live Silver Springs version from The Dance. It's as if she's saying to everyone "You'll never get away"- from me. It's one of her finest moments, IMO.

I bought the go your own way-single early 78, because there was an outtake on it, they said.... I was amazed, it got me by the throat immediately. So I'll go for the original. Still think the liveversion is too slow, although I agree with the better solo and of course, the absolute briljant ending, when stevie is screaming her heart out facing "the subject" of the song....

VERY hard to choose

The studio version....(which was the first one I heard) completely blew me away....Stevie's vocal conveyed such beauty and vunerability....and a bit of sadness and it really reflected what she was going through at the time...so on an emtional level...it really does 'tug at you' a bit....especially the "Did you say she was pretty?"..."Did you say that she loved you?"..."Baby I don't wanna know...." I wept the first time I ever heard that sadness in her voice...

The live version, now that Stevie is older, it STILL conveys the sadness and the wistfullness...but NOW there IS an edge to Silver Spring...as if she is saying...."How dare you do this to me!" IMO, there is a slight, very slight hint of anger to the ending of the song...which again, makes it all the more emotional

So ultimately, while I love them both....for sentiment alone, I will say the studio version is my favorite.

I personally like the studio version best. The production on it is excellent. The live version is good also.

Definitely LIVE!!!!!!!!!!! It's one of my faves!

The studio version leaves me cold. It's very boring and drab. I don't really like the instrumentation on it and find it quite annoying how the song starts out. And, don't stone me, but...I absolutely despise the vocal.

It's quite possibly one of her most cloying, whiny vocals she's ever recorded, IMO.

The live performance of Silver Springs from The Dance is what made me take notice of Fleetwood Mac and become the obsessive fanatical fan I am proud to be today

There is nothing like listening to AND watching that performance. There is nothing more powerful...and it demonstrates better than anything else the Buckingham Nicks interaction that makes them completely unique among all other artists out there.

As for the studio version, I do love it. Stevie's vocals at the end of the song are great...but I prefer the older, wiser, (and still angry) Stevie best.

I heard the original one first (the day it was released), so I'm biased toward that one. However, I do like the arrangement of the live version on The Dance and its "Wish You Were Here"-like intro.

Well...I definately won't stone you. I asked for everyone's opinion, and I definately agree with some of what you said.

I don't like the beginning of the studio version. Thank goodness it gets better though. Once you get to the first 'Don't say that she's pretty...did you say she loved you...' it sounds great. There's a very very simple guitar thing in that part that almost makes up for the not so great guitar solo later. The chorus of course is great. I love the pounding REAL piano in it. The bridge and chorus of the song really have a classic rock sound to them. I love music like that.

Stevie's voice at the beginning is a little whiny. Again...it gets better. Like many of you said...I like how she sounds a little older and wiser and maybe a little angry in the live version.

I like the live version from the Dance a LOT, even though I also enjoy the studio version, but for me I feel a lot more passion coming from the live version...so I'm gonna go with the live version

Studio. I feel it was more heart-felt, and her vocal was just so lively, and it wasn't as monotone as the live version. Plus I love the combination of the acoustic guitar and the piano.
