But wasn't really the point. It wasn't contest to determine who was the better singer.

Why must personal preferences turn into "battles" about who or what is better than the other? Those thoughts and threads here are so stale and tiresome. It's all subjective.

I'd rather have two 9-track albums than one 18-track album

Stevie says she recorded 18 songs. Even though she can sometimes exagerate numbers, I hope she is being acurate.

Still, does that mean it will be an 18 song album? That would be amazing. But perhaps a few might end up as digital downloads. Or maybe there will be two versions of the album - with a deluxe version featuring the bonus tracks.

Can't wait for it! Has there been any talk of a release date?

PenguinHead, I've been wondering the same thing. Stevie said 17 or 18 tracks had been recorded, but there is no guarantee that they will all make the final cut. I'm hoping every track gets a release of some kind (digital, deluxe etc.), but I would be very surprised if she released an album with more than 14 tracks on it. I guess it's also possible some of these might migrate their way to the next Mac album.
The only release information I have read mentioned October, but no specific date that I recall.

They had mentioned that this album is going to an "alternative greatest hits album" so IMO it could be longer than 14 songs also it seems that they are cleaning out the vaults and tying up loose ends..this could be the final Stevie album .I'm betting on at least 16 tracks.

Do you recall when/where that was said? I've seen some fans describe it as such, but I've never seen anything from Dave or Liz Rosenberg describing it as an alternative greatest hits album. Regardless, definitely hoping that we hear all 17/18 tracks. And even if we do, I'll be anxious to know what the remaining 7-8 tracks were that they brought to Nashville but decided not to record.

14 tracks were recorded for "IYD" and 14 tracks were released when IYD came out...So if 18 tracks have been recorded I would suspect 18 will be released...

You have a valid point there BDL - let's hope all the recorded songs do get released!

I'd forgotten about that - yes they considered about 25 songs didn't they? I would be happy for those tracks to go the Mac's way. Seriously, I'd prefer she record all the 'vault' songs before any new (potentially mediocre) tracks see the light of day.

That raises a good point; perhaps part of their process involved deciding which songs were most appropriate for the Mac, and which were best suited for Stevie's solo album. If so, that also helps explain Lindsey's prior comments regarding Stevie trying to figure out how and in what way she was planning to contribute to the FM album.

Some of her "vault" songs are mediocre. But Dave knows how to polish turds, or least make sound choices.

Fair enough, not all of the 'vault' demos are brilliant, but there is a consistency that is missing from her recent work. I also concede that Stevie's faultless vocals during the mid 1970's to early 1980's period most probably elevated average material to greater heights (eg "Starshine").

I hope this is the case. I imagine that if this is the strategy, it would make sense to pursue some of the stranger, darker material (eg "24 Karat Gold", "Baby Doll", "Gypsy Beggar" etc) for Stevie's solo album and perhaps reserve some of the more straightforward, upbeat songs like "The Dealer" for Fleetwood Mac. That might explain what some people have been speculating upon as odd choices for the solo album.
