Default What in the hell is going on.................

In a week. Two school teachers got murdered by kids.

What is it.

Bad parenting.

Violence in the entertainment industry. Movies ,Vid games ,music that drive them to do these crimes.

Bullying .

Peer pressure .

Schools are now turning into a shooting gallery and nothing is getting done to fix this problem.

Bad Parenting, or half-ass parents. The country is full of them now because people have to work.

GUNS are now the Toy of Choice I was recently on a movie set with a few hundred 20 somethings and so many of them were talking about having or buying guns .

Gun Ranges are now the new Nintendo .

Back in my days of school. We used fists.I dont recall any knife threats .

Speaking of bullying.I was a target of bullying in middle school and little in high school.

I never even thought of killing anybody because of it,

Things have chance in the last 35 plus years.

Its real sad.

But haven't most families had 2 working parents since the 1970s? This whole rampant mass-shooting/children killers thing seems much more recent of a phenomena.

Personally, I put more blame on the media than parents. They just seem to glorify these never-ending mass shootings/child murderers with obscene amounts of coverage; nearly all of it dedicated to the shooters & not the victims.

It almost makes sense when you realize how many kids have full time working parents who probably can't dedicate the amount of parenting time needed; the kids get bullied at school, home, and online; and are fed a constant diet of violence thanks to the media/tv/movies/video games. Combine this with the fact our society still has a very real stigma in regards to addressing mental issues, and this cycle is doomed to repeat itself & get worse.

I'm not even going to delve into America's obsessive gun culture, because that culture has always been there. The type of killings are much newer, though.

I just think that having a kid should be a priviledge, not a right. If you can't take care of a kid, you shouldn't be able to have one. The kids that I have seen that are bad have had bad situations at home.

Actually if you think about it, after World War I and II, there were a lot of families where Dad didn't come home, or in the case of Europe, where kids were left orphans. Lots of kids didn't have 24/7 parental attention, it is just that the media didn't try and make us all feel guilty about it then.

I think there are many causes. Our American culture that values fame, business and money more than responsibility, community, justice and love. Our obsession with work that leaves little time for parenting and family. Reality TV that constantly glorifies violence and heightened personal drama at the expense of others. A political system that permeates every facet of our daily lives with an us versus them polarity. A mentality that we're all 'special' just because we walk and talk. A complete and total lack of patience, because everything is instant, and there's a perception that nothing which requires waiting is worth waiting for. I could go on and on. And while there are finer details of every point that could be argued endlessly, it's really all summed up by the simple fact that our culture is at the most vapid, greedy, consumeristic, me-me-me point in it's history. There's no "us" anymore unless it's to pit us against them. Our culture is sour, rotten to the core, and it manifests in our children. They get it from the adults in their lives, from observing the way we treat and talk to each other.

When I move a certain way
I feel an ache I can't debate
A hairline break that's taking hold...

I'm feeling broadly melancholy and esoteric today. Mostly life is good, until you look around with your eyes and heart *open* and see that it's not.

It's just so obvious that it's all connected. You only to have to step up and away for a moment, and then look down to see it, like a yellow cloud over our lives, everywhere. It's called selfishness.

10 000 points to KC!

... Yes. I can give points now.

I'd also like to touch on the fact that bullying these days is such a different experience from what it was years ago. The internet permeates just about every aspect of modern life, and much of bullying takes place on there. Bullying used to go away when you closed your front door when you got home. Now it follows you 24/7. I think this would put kids today in much more desperate mindsets than in the past. It's probably only a small piece of the puzzle but it's something I've had on the brain a lot lately as I watch my little sister grow up with about 10 social media accounts and everyone in her school connected by them all the time.
