Okay, that sorta, indirectly intimates that she wasn't a fan of the double record concept. But indeed it was a rather blasι way of putting it. I don't think she had strong feelings about it at the time Tusk was being recorded. Seeing that the interview was in 1982, a point in time when Tusk was not really considered to be a masterpiece, I think Stevie was simply distancing herself from the project and playing "Monday Morning" quarterback. It's as if she spilled the milk, stepped away and said "I had no part in this!"

Perhaps you've conveniently overlooked the fact that Stevie's songs on Tusk, not Lindsey's, are the songs that essentially made it such an iconic album.
Tusk is my favorite FM album, but I don't consider it iconic. Maybe to FM fans, but compared to Rumours, which is inarguably iconic, I don't think Tusk is to the general public.

How do you infer that I overlooked that fact..Stevie's Tusk songs are her artistic highpoint.I was not commenting on the quality of her songs on that album at all only some of her attitudes about said album in those years and I believe Michelle helped with the "citation"

That's what she did. From that moment on I slowly grew away from her as a fan. And grew closer to Lindsey, as a fan.

Same here. I was a huge Stevie fan until about 1985, then slowly just grew away from her. She became my 3rd favorite singer in the band.

And I think Lindsey's production on Tusk is what made it iconic. And I prefer his songs to Stevie's, by a long stretch.

Exactly - give it another ten or 15 years & she'll be saying SYW was brilliant.

When it comes to Tusk, I still think that the sum of it's parts makes it iconic. Lindsey's experiments combined with the songs of CM and SN, and their beautiful arrangements and tasteful production, and not the least, the total balls to the wall rythmtracks, made it to what it is. the best album ever recorded by anyone.

I was totally enthralled by Tusk. Still am. The "ugly" words about that album made me mad. It was a brave and gutsy step in mainstream rock.

Tusk was my favorite FM album when it came out in 79. Still is today.
I put it right up there with Pet Sounds and Revolver.

Well, not if the music critics don't agree. If Rolling Stone and the like don't ever start calling it some sort of masterpiece, I don't think she'll change her thinking or comments about it.

Yes, I remember her saying that Lindsey thought garbage rock should have actual garbage in trash cans, or something along those lines in a reference to what she took to be Tusk's punk edge. And Stevie pointed out that Christine didn't like some of Lindsey's Tusk songs and would just walk up and tell him so or say she wouldn't play them in concert.

In 1981, BAM accused Stevie (well all of the Macsters) of flip flopping on Tusk. The magazine said they were all "delighted" with it at first and now they hate it and the interviewer saw that as revisionism. Stevie said,

Quote:
I never felt any differently about it. I was always up-front about it. I loved the songs for the most part. I even liked almost all of Lindsey's tunes, which were the most heavily criticized. I did not love sitting around for thirteen months and I never said I did. If Tusk had been terribly successful I wouldn't have taken the credit for it because I was not that much a part of it. It was out of my hands. I didn't want it to be called Tusk. I didn't like the artwork. I'm being totally truthful--I had very little to do with that record.
Too your album length point:

Quote:
My main complaint with Tusk isn't musical. It just went on too long. I think it could have been done in half the time. But again, I'm not a player. I'm the dancer and singer. I just want to get up there and dance and twirl my baton.
My main complaint with TISL when I first heard it (I changed this view after 2 years) was that it was not musical.

As for individual songs on Tusk she said:

Quote:
I love individual songs. Of my songs, I like "Sara" and "Angel" the best. I liked most of Chris' stuff. Of Lindsey's songs, I guess I like "Save Me A Place" and "Walk a Thin Line" the most. Those are beautiful songs.

I love Lindsey's work. I didn't hang around with him for seven years for nothing, listening to him play guitar every single night, watching him fall asleep with his electric guitar across his chest. There were nights I had to pry the guitar off of him so he could sleep in a normal position.

[Excuse me, I'm just reading interviews here to get a chronology]

So, it was about 1985 when she was talking to Molly that the change in her perception of Tusk started to come out in interviews.

Quote:
I mean, and Tusk, was like very native, very African. Mick lived in the jungle in Africa for 5 or 6 years of his life, right? And so Mick thinks that he is a Watusi Warrior and he is! So this whole record, I mean, I would sit and write for days, you know, it was like The Tribe and like this is the sacred steps back up to the top of the sacred mountain of this jungle kind of thing, and that's what Tusk was. And if you ever really listen to Tusk and listen to it quietly, its very slow. I listen to it sometimes and I think these songs are so slow. Its like, Lindsey's song goes "and they said I never would recover, and they said I knew you well". Its like everything on Tusk was very like "warrioresque", which is probably one of the reasons why 13 months didn't kill us all, because it was so -- its like we kind of went to kind of another kind of world for Tusk and I think that Tusk is one of those records that some day people will sit down and listen to and understand what it really was because I didn't even understand what it was and I think I'm only now, as I listen to it in my own private time, starting to realize that there was a lot more in Tusk that even I didn't see.

Lindsey confirmed tonight in Newark that the EP drops next week on iTunes and has four songs. Any guesses on the fourth?!

That would be my guess as well. It would be nice to have a live version of "Sad Angel", but a part of me would also like to just have another song that they cut during the studio sessions last year and then hope to get a live version of "Sad Angel" on a concert DVD or CD/MP3 release sometime later in the year.
