Default interview with Mick

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0157jtk

Mick talking about Rumours and the band and the usual stuff on BBC Radio 2.

The interview covers a lot of the same ground, but there is one interesting bit where Mick says something and unfortunately the interviewer interrupts and we never get to hear Mick's full thought.

It starts a little bit before 13:00. Mick is talking about his role in keeping the band together, and how the first time someone left the band was when Peter Green left and how difficult that was but then he and John learned to keep going and Mick ended up having to do that over and over again as different people left the band over the years. At 13:40 he says "you get lonely not having a band to play with. I had to eventually learn my version of 'letting go' , which didn't happen until 3 years ago, really."

At this point the interviewer interrupts him when I wish he really would have let Mick finish his thought ... what happened 3 years ago that made Mick have to 'let go' and accept that he might not have a band to play with? Was this related to the Stevie drama of her doing In Your Dreams with Dave Stewart and saying she couldn't/wouldn't record with Fleetwood Mac again without an outside producer? Him having to accept that there might not be another new Mac record because of all that? I wish the interviewer had been more perceptive and asked questions of Mick about all that to get at what he might have meant.

Anyway, a decent interview, the interviewer clearly did his homework and Mick talks a little bit about his affair with Stevie, and Christine leaving the band and what that conversation was between the two of them, and how he's honored her request and not asked her to come back, but that she knows the door is always open any time should she want to come up on stage with them. He also talks about how Christine said to him and John when they were meeting Stevie and Lindsey that if she didn't get on with Stevie that they not force the issue and still try to bring her into the band. When asked if they would have just invited Lindsey only in that case Mick says well no, because he wouldn't have joined-- that he learned recently from Lindsey that if they'd asked just him he would have said no. Not news, but a slightly different spin on the telling of the story and kind of surprising that he would say that he just recently learned that LB wouldn't have come without Stevie. Really, Mick?
