Question must do songs - just 7? or 10? 12? or?

we keep having various threads where we are discussing different variations on this... culminating in CAD pulling together that great list of songs performed on each tour http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=51399 which i think is really helpful in narrowing down the must dos.

so here is my understanding of must-do songs for FM (i personally would narrow it down more, but band seems to be throwing around number 12 so i will go with something close to that) -

must dos they never did or will drop (just 7!):
Rhiannon
Go Your Own Way
Landslide
I'm So Afraid
Big Love
Dreams
The Chain
Don’t Stop

must dos that they may (or did) drop from time to time (6 songs):
Gypsy
Tusk
Second Hand News
Never Going Back Again
Gold Dust Woman
Silver Springs

that's 13 songs, with 7 essential.

i see 3 songs from LB and 3 songs from SN that they will never drop except in some solo outings (the only song LB never dropped even solo is Big Love) so seems fruitless to keep bringing those up (and i have been guilty of that too since i can't stand Rhiannon and Dreams) -

Big Love
I'm So Afraid
Go Your Own Way

Rhiannon
Landslide
Dreams

what are your lists? what is your number? realistically? criticisms of mine?

I think they will keep most of the key songs in the set list plus some additions and subtractions of tunes plus surprises too.

I think the should at lease do the hits from their popular albums and tunes from their roots.

Yes I agree .They got to play the 7 including the 6 tunes which brings it to 13.

I know Gypsy is sometimes an option to get dropped from the setlist.

Then they will add the bonus solo tunes from Stevie and Lindsey.

Plus surprises like SOTM.

Elle, yes this is what I am trying to get to. And, I don't think they must do 12 - but I think THEY think they must do 12-or more. And, you have to remember this will be emphasizing Rumours. They will do the 7 songs from that & the 5 White album songs (sans Chris). Period. That leaves roughly 12-14 to play with, but not really because they will do: Big Love, Stand Back, Tusk, Silver Springs.

Let's look at the carry over numbers in just the tours with LB:

From Mirage to The Dance - 17 songs
From The Dance to Say You Will - 14 songs
From Say You Will to Unleashed - 18 songs! (Total set was 23 songs)!

These songs from Unleashed will be dropped:
Say You Love Me, Storms

These are possible outs:
Go Insane, Gypsy (doubt it), I Know I'm Not Wrong, Oh Well (please!), and Sara.

Lets get real. This set will be the same as Unleashed minus I Know I'm Not Wrong, Storms, Monday Morning, Say You Love Me, and Oh Well. We know Soliders Angel is going in there, so that gives us 4 slots to play with.

man, they are one conservative bunch, aren't they?

i agree that SYLM, Storms, GI, IKINW, and Sara won't (and shouldn't!) carry over from UL, and also probably not Oh Well although i wouldn't mind hearing that one live. i love that song.

i hope they drop Gypsy, but by all accounts they won't b/c they never did after they first introduced it, at least not for the whole tour. maybe they'll do it acoustically again, that would be a welcome change.

so after we get rid of these songs from UL setlist, we are left with 12 songs, possibly 14:

Big Love
Don't Stop
Dreams
Go Your Own Way
Gold Dust
Gypsy*
I'm So Afraid
Landslide
Never Going Back - possibly drop? nah... probably not
Rhiannon
Second Hand News
Silver Springs - possibly drop... probably not
The Chain
Tusk*

that still leaves 10-12 places for new additions!

if we go with 10 (more conservative):

2-3 newly recorded songs - Sad Angel, Miss Fantasy, and Without You (which would cover both new and BN)
2 solo songs, one from IYD and SWS each - our polls seems to present a choice between YMBTO and SA for SN, and between RAB and TTWLG for LB
1 BN song (they might do IDWK and have it cover both BN and Rumours?)
4 "deep" cuts - 2 from SN and 2 from LB

that's not bad!

so which 2 SN deep cuts should it be? for me it would be SOTM, and a choice between Angel and Destiny Rules, or both if we go for 3 songs from each songwriter.

for LB top of my wish list for 2 deep cuts would be:
WMYTYTO
WATL
and
Murrow as the 3rd choice.

(i wouldn't mind hearing Come, BTLH, SYHA, or Red Rover either, but we did hear first 2 on his last solo tour so they are not the top of my wish list.)

Those first 7 are a must do. I agree that they must do some hits in order for the casual fans to enjoy the show, but I wish that they would willing mix uo the set a bit. Do the must dos(roughly 13 songs) and then 9 or 10 fan picked ones.

Yeah you're closer than Elle. No way are they freeing up 12-14 slots.

For the love of all that is holy, they better not end the show with Crystal. I'd rather end the night on a more up beat note than with a downer like that.

ETA: Although maybe ending with Crystal is a good idea, it'll give me a chance to beat everyone out of the parking lot when I leave early.

Crystal is more up beat than Goodbye Baby.

no no no no no! no acoustic SWS. if he does SWS, it needs to be an electric version!

also... besides The Chain, Don't Stop and new songs, you got 12 SN and 8 LB songs in your set. i don't think (i sure hope not!) they'd go for unbalanced set like that - maybe 1 song off, but not 4.

thanks for playing!

Bah. You would! They were trying to emulate Songbird. I thought it was beautiful. Very moving.
