Tuesday 29th January 2013 by Grace Carroll | Photos by WENNTags: Fleetwood Mac WHY FLEETWOOD MAC'S 2013 TOUR IS REASON TO BE EXCITEDBack on the road in 2013, with UK dates hinted at - but why all the fuss? Photo: WENNFleetwood Mac Tickets Comebacks and reunions tours are everywhere right now, and it's getting harder to think of a band who haven't reunited or announced a comeback tour in 2013 - but Fleetwood Mac's live shows in Autumn 2013 are reason to get more excited than most. With the headlines being made by David Bowie, Black Flag, Pink Floyd, Suede, The Who and The Rolling Stones at the moment, it'd be easy to think that we'd slipped back a decade or two in the music world. And yet there's something about the latest news that is bigger than the 'comeback phase'. Because Fleetwood Mac have announced a UK tour and, while it isn't the Glastonbury announcement that we'd all hoped for, it's certainly enough to get everyone really excited. Like, really excited. Mick Jagger who? But considering that Fleetwood Mac haven't released an album in ten years, it's easy to wonder what all the fuss is really about - never mind that 2003's Say You Will was a perfect example of how well Fleetwood Mac manage to stay relevant and avoid the nostalgia trap that so many 'classic' bands fall into, the fact still remains that most people unfortunately won't even be aware of its existence. Part of the reason for the current surrounding meltdown is simple - Fleetwood Mac don't tour very often. Whatever the reason for wanting to see them - a sense of misplaced nostalgia, an appreciation for Rumours or just the opportunity to worship at the feet of rock goddess Stevie Nicks in person - it's difficult to get the chance. In the last ten years, Fleetwood Mac have toured twice. So with that in mind, it's not surprising that the news of the 2013 tour is being met with such enthusiasm. After all, Stevie Nicks herself put it best in a recent interview with Reuters. "I don't want a Fleetwood Mac tour every year or year and a half," she said. "That's why people get so excited. ... All of a sudden the world is on edge and that's what gets you out there." There's no doubt that the world is on edge. And another part of the reason for that is because finally - finally! - the band's 'classic' line-up is going on tour. Instead of having to take a bingo card along to the concert in order to tick off the members that have been on stage at one point or another, fans can get the 'big four' crossed off. That's right; 2013 is going to see John McVie, Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood team up once again - minus Christine McVie who, let's be realistic, is never going to come back to the band and will forever keep fans from getting that 'bingo!' moment. Fleetwood Mac are one of the few bands that manage to transcend eras. It's not a throwback to the 70s - and it won't just be packed with middle-aged men trying to relive their youth. The only reason that their music sounds like the 70s is because it's associated with that - and even then, rarely. Modern music today all takes inspiration from Fleetwood Mac. Haim, who won the BBC Sound of 2013 poll, have a definite sound of Rumours in their music, Taylor Swift's music harks back to the Fleetwood Mac heyday, Best Coast, MGMT and The Kills all took part in a Fleetwood Mac tribute album. Even Beyonce sampled Stevie Nicks' 1981 hit 'Edge of Seventeen' for 'Bootylicious' - can anyone need more proof than that? Above all, Fleetwood Mac are timeless. Rumours, with all of its bitterness and vulnerability and heartbreak, is real - and appealing to everyone. Fleetwood Mac have been through whatever you've been through, and they've got the ability to put what you're feeling into a song and play it back to you. So why is a Fleetwood Mac comeback so popular? Here's why - because, let's face it; in an ideal world, they'd never even go away.

Wednesday 30th January 2013 by Adam Tait | Photos by WENN.comTags: Fleetwood Mac STEVIE NICKS: 'LINDSEY LEFT FLEETWOOD BECAUSE HE THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE'Singer reveals the impact of drug addiction Photo: WENN.comFleetwood Mac Tickets Stevie Nicks has revealed that her addiction to tranquilizers played a part in her former boyfriend Lindsey Buckingham's decision to quit Fleetwood Mac. This year sees the band heading out on tour again, with their seminal album Rumours already having been re-released. The original lineup surprised some when they reunited in 1997, but apparently it was guitarist Lindsey Buckingham who had been reluctant before then. Buckingham left the band after they released the relatively successful Tango In The Night, and says himself it was down to his desire to work on solo albums. But Stevie Nicks suggests his departure had something to do with her addiction and Buckingham's concern for her health. "I went into rehab on December 12th, 1993 and came out on the 27th of January - 47 days to come off Klonopin. I nearly died," she tells Rolling Stone. "And I think one of the reasons that Lindsey left is because I was very, very high on this horrific tranquilizer. I didn't even make it to most of the recording sessions for Tango In The Night. I was sick. "And I think he was horribly worried that I was going to die." After her stint in rehab Nicks went on to complete a three month tour and says that after that she felt the people around her were reassured that she was going to be OK. "I was going to be OK, and everyone knew I was going to be OK. And I think that's when Lindsey thought Fleetwood Mac could go on, because his beloved ex-girlfriend was not going to die. She was going to make it." There had been speculation that Fleetwood Mac would be performing at this year's Glastonbury Festival as the dates had been left conspicuously clear at the end of their North American tour. Stevie Nicks on stage with drummer Mick Fleetwood But it apparently is not to be, with new dates announced which rule out the possibility. The band will, however, be visiting the UK in the autumn - in either September or October - to play a series of shows. Their seminal album Rumours is also on course to re-enter the UK Albums Chart this weekend, nearly 36 years after it's initial release in February 1977. Below: what to expect from Fleetwood Mac's 2013 tour

Buckingham Recalls Quitting Fleetwood Mac By Pulse of Radio 45 minutes ago (Gaye Gerard/Getty Images) Lindsey Buckingham talked openly about his 1987 split from Fleetwood Mac. Following the release of the band’s comeback album, Tango In The Night, Buckingham backed out of touring with the band, and officially stayed away from Fleetwood Mac until their 1997 The Dance reunion special and CD. Buckingham explained to Rolling Stone that it took until his one-off appearance with Fleetwood Mac at President Clinton’s inaugural bash for him to see a way back into the band: “We did Clinton’s inauguration in ’93, and that was sort of the catalyst and had a delayed reaction. I think by the time you cut to ’96, when we contemplated doing The Dance, there had been enough time where we all settled down as people. The craziness that existed in ’87 and ’88 was gone. We were — for all intents and purposes — adults. I think the time apart helped us appreciate each other. The group has always been a group of people you can say maybe didn’t belong in the same band together, but it’s the synergy that makes it so magical. We were able to see that more clearly.” Although Buckingham now saves songs from his solo sessions for prospective Fleetwood Mac tracks, he recalled that back in the day, it was literally the opposite way around for him and the band: “The Tango In The Night album has tracks on it that were the beginnings of my third solo record. And I started that, and the group sort of moved in and said, ‘Hey, we gotta do this.’ So the song ‘Big Love’ switched gears and got into the group thing. There was more than one time when I was tempted to sort of go out and leave the group — but its like anything else; you have to check your own impulses and make sure that you’re really doing the right thing and you’re ready for it.” Buckingham told us that splitting Fleetwood Mac before the band’s 1988 tour behind Tango In The Night was purely for his own creative survival: “I had left in ’87, things had just gotten too crazy and I was just trying to, y’know, get my own act back together and reclaim my sanity and creativity.” Fleetwood Mac will kick off its 48-date North American tour on April 4th at Columbus, Ohio’s Nationwide Arena

It's as though the 2003/2009 tours never took place. Even on the UK Google News page in the entertainment section that article you've quoted from is a main headline. It's all good of course, but strange! |

Mick Fleetwood has promised fans Fleetwood Mac will release new material ahead of the band's upcoming tour later this year. Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, John McVie and Lindsey Buckingham will regroup for a world tour in April to coincide with the 35th anniversary of their Rumours album, which remains one of the most successful releases of all time. The drummer now reveals they started work on a collection of new tracks before Nicks' mother passed away in December 2011, and he hopes the songs will come out online before the shows. He tells BBC Radio 6 Music, "We decided, myself and Lindsey, went into the studio and created a calling card for Stevie letting her know we wanted to make new music. We had the greatest time and we made some really good music. Then her mother died and it wasn't time for her to be singing. "Just recently though she has sung on three of them and we've recorded one original song of hers. So, we're going to go crazy and there will be something out that we will play onstage and that might become part of a long term plan over the next year. Our wish is going to come true and we will finish an album. I hope there is a demand for it, after we throw two or three songs out on the Internet, and we might make an album." The tour will kick off in Columbus, Ohio on 4 April.

Stevie was well received and did more press then she usually does so that may have helped too. Sharon Osbourne used to be on the panel of X Factor but that was a while ago now, I haven't seen that much of her on UK tv lately though. I've no idea why interest in them seems to be at an all time high? I'm guessing people are getting fed up with the same old, same old chart cr*p that we're having to endure and are realising how good this band really are. |
