Default Waylon Jennings: Beautiful Annabel Lee

Interesting...

Waylon Jennings recorded his own Annabel Lee song in 1967 (written by Harlan Howard)

Most fans probably also know that Leather and Lace was written for Waylon and his wife Jessi Colter before she decided to keep the song for herself.

Yeah. I still have issue with that story. Waylon never confirmed that.

Well I don't know if he ever confirmed that or not, but Leather & Lace was the first album that Waylon and Jessie did together in 1981. They had done duets together before but this was their first album together. I guess the story goes that he asked Stevie to write the song Leather & Lace for that album which would have been the title cut. But according to Stevie, Waylon and Jessie broke up and that is why she decided to keep it for herself.

Yeah I know what she said. I think the timing is off from the time she wrote it & also Waylon even knowing her or being aware of her or even asking another songwriter to write for him. Jmo.

The original label for the 1981 single says "Leather And Lace (written for Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter)".

Yes as we know now.I wonder how would Waylon's version would of sound if they recorded it.

It would of be a hit on the country charts like his other tunes.

They probably did record it but it was never released. Since their Leather And Lace album came out in 1981 they most likely recorded it for that. Maybe they felt Stevie's version was better so just didn't bother with it? But since Waylon died they have released a lot of stuff, but it has yet to surface if it ever was recorded.
