Yeah, there are like four of us on here who like country music.
I loved Nickel Creek. Chris Thile attended my college for a few semesters, as his dad worked for the university. One of my favorites, Dwight Yoakam, is releasing a new album in September. |

He IS awesome. I saw him here in Kentucky earlier this year and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

I love classic country from the early years up to the 1980's..I got started listenig to country music around when Rumours was released in 1977.I shelved all the other rock acts and kept FM on top of my list and welcome country music to my listening pleasure.
I remember in high school all of my friends were LOL at me because I liked country music. Remember Barbara Mandrell -- I Was Country (When Country Was'nt Cool) .Her Nunber one tune from 1981. I fit the part of it. The new country is like softrock or rock now.Its ok but I prefer the old tunes.

My younger (biological) brother, who I only met in person two months ago, became a father for the first time today! Suddenly, I'm Uncle Steve!

Since we've gotten into a little country discussion, here are some of my favourite country artists. It's a bit of a split between classic country and more country pop/rock, including a lot of the Laurel Canyon country rock of the early 70s:
Emmylou Harris Steve Earle Gram Parsons (including Fallen Angels, International Submarine Band) Flying Burrito Brothers Waylon Jennings Willie Nelson Sugarland (Jennifer Nettles has an incredible voice!) Alison Krauss and Union Station Dolly Parton (especially her bluegrass trilogy of album from about 10-12 years ago) Nickel Creek Linda Ronstadt (her rock material too) Dixie Chicks Rosanne Cash Johnny Cash JD Souther Patsy Cline kd lang Miranda Lambert/Pistol Annies Julie Roberts Hayseed Dixie (so much fun!) Loretta Lynn Loads more too of course... In my guiltiest pleasure moments I'll listen to some Garth too and a little Clint Black (I love a Good Run of Bad Luck!). I haven't listened to much Dwight Yoakam though, maybe I need to hear some more...

No Buck Owens, no Hank Sr, no Faron Young, no DWIGHT YOAKAM? The 3 former, are all dead. Dwight is the real deal, right here and now. Steve Earle hasn't been TRUE country for 20 years. He(like John Mellendouche) decided that he was the new Blob Dylan....just an amalgam of americana crapola....some good, some.....not so much! Moody, self serving doucheiness! Steve is batsh*t crazy, too.Garth flying by a harness over an arena....made me know that he's not country, but simply a sales whore(although I do like his voice). Clint's voice has always worked my last nerve. Too whiny, and I don't mean GOOD country twang. (I'm having a mood tonight, pardon my bi*chiness!) ![]()

I hope you don't mind but I narrowed your list down to include the artist I like myself. And yes, you must listen to Dwight. A few suggestions: dwightyoakamacoustic.net - My favorite of all his CD's. Just him and guitar doing all his greatest. And along with the new 3 Pears release, a 5 CD set is due 9/11/12 ~ Original Album Series (less than $25.00). |

I can't believe that we're FINALLY having a country music discussion on the Ledge. Not "edge walks", or Steve E. "farting rainbows or unicorns". And I can't wait for the original album series!!!
