There WAS a difference. Not anymore.

That's great and all, BUT LINDSEY AND STEVIE ARE THE SOLE FRONT-LINE OF FLEETWOOD MAC. Fleetwood Mac IS Buckingham Nicks, only with an amazing rhythm section. If having a sub-par rhythm section is what you need to tell yourself there's a difference, then I really don't get it. The whole "Buckingham Nicks" thing hasn't existed for nearly 40 years.

Hmmmm...When Mick says that Lindsey's playing reminded him of Danny Kirwan, I guess I have to sweep that under the rug. F*ckin' Mick for putting thoughts in my head about things he was thinking about. The nerve of that bald bastard.

BULLS**T. Station Man, Spare Me A Little Of Your Love, Sentimental Lady, Sometimes, Dust, Bare Trees, and Sunny Side Of Heaven beg to differ. Didn't RS call the 1975 album the little brother to "Bare Trees"?

I know it chaps their asses, but Fleetwood Mac had already charted certain waters when Ian and Sylvia joined the band. Stevie and Lindsey weren't so much original (they weren't), they just did some things better.

Yeah they were, if you were looking in the right places.

Yeah, because Mick and John (and Christine later) played with Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer, a very folky Danny Kirway, the mystic Bob Welch, and dealt with a bunch of stupid industry crap before they met Ian and Sylvia. Yeah, Fleetwood Mac wasn't ready for Stevie and Lindsey...

Please....

By the time Ian & Sylvia joined Fleetwood Mac, the band had pretty much seen or lived through it all. Linds and Nick couldn't have wished for a better situation. In one day, they upgraded their role in rock.

REGARDLESS OF HISTORY....

Lindsey and Stevie simply can't find a rhythm section that will give their music the same justice Mick and John would. So, really, as of today, the only REAL difference between BN and FM is quality of rhythm section. Nothing else. Lindsey will be Lindsey, Stevie will be Stevie, the approach won't be so radically different as it has been over the past years.

You're Jonesing over a record that wasn't great (it was very good, though), that would not sound the same if the two principle members recorded a new record today.
If this were 1980 I would agree with you. But have you heard Mick and John's playing from a few years ago. It sounds like they are struggling, moreso Mick than John. Lindsey and Stevie's solo backing bands have been sounding better to me lately than the Mac guys.

Say You Will, Mick and John on UTS and GOS, Mick on In Your Dreams, Mick's improvisations on "I Know I'm Not Wrong" from the Unleashed tour speak for themselves: nobody provides better rhythm to Lindsey and Stevie.

Imagine paying $1000 to hear "Don't Dream It's Over" instead of "Go Your Own Way"

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.

Agree. Mick even has a ghost drummer...

But, I don't understand why a Buckingham Nicks reunion conversation automatically insinuates no Mick & John. It doesn't - but, a true BN reunion could be done with any drummer and bass player because it's about material and presentation, mainly meaning more Buckingham Nicks tunes, less (or no) Fleetwood Mac tunes unless original BN songs (ie: Crystal, Rhiannon).

Personally, it doesn't matter to me if they use Mick & John. But, I think it would be really cool if they used Waddy. And Neale, Brett and any of the other solo band members could easily round it out. I doubt seriously they would even think of using Tom Moncrieff & Hoppy Hodges. Hoppy has been pretty ill anyway.

First of all, I agree with SteveMacD.

Secondly, who would be in the "new" BN band? drummer, bass player, etc.

Thirdly, what would the set list be? BN as an "band" only had what 13 songs?

^See my post above for band member ideas.

Stevie's current solo set has 16 songs.

Lindsey has been doing roughly 13, give or take one or two.

Ideally, they would do all the BN album plus "Sorcerer", "Without You", "Nomad", "Rhiannon", "Heartbreaker", "Forget About Me". The last BN set had 13 songs, including "Monday Morning", "I Don't Wanna Know" and "Blue Letter". I would add " Twisted", "Soldier's Angel", and "That's Alright" (BN originally) - a 22 song set. Fleetwood Mac's last tour had 23 songs when " Silver Springs" wasn't dropped.

That being said, I highly doubt a BN set would be longer than 15 songs.

I found this in an old post I had written sometime last year as a possible BN set:

Frozen Love
Gypsy (acoustic)
Landslide
Rhiannon
CRYSTAL! (duet, or with Lindsey on lead)
Stephanie
Long Distance Winner
Crying in The Night
Lola My Love
Sorcerer
I Don't Wanna Know
Blue Letter
Monday Morning
Races Are Run
Twisted
Without a Leg to Stand On
Without You
California Dreamin'

Looking back on it, I'd add in Candlebright/Nomad, Designs of Love/That's Alright, and Soldier's Angel. And I wouldn't mind hearing Heartbreaker or Forget About Me, either And I can't figure out why I left DLMDA off... that would definitely need to be in the set.

LOVE IT.

Also, ending with California Dreamin' is perfection.

Buckingham Nicks would be harder to market than Stevie or, even, Lindsey solo.

I don't think that they have any real intention of touring under that name. Maybe they'll do their solo tours together and come together for some songs. I would not find this arrangement equitable and I would hope it never happens.

If they plan to tour with FM while performing BN songs, that sounds fine with me. If, in lieu of a new studio album, they want to promote BN music as their new material to keep the next FM tour from being another "Greatest Hits" album, I applaud it.

Probably. But, they're the ones who keep throwing "BN" out there - you know, into the universe...

For what it's worth, I don't think they could do some of the old BN stuff justice vocally anymore... case in point, Without You. Gorgeous demo, the harmonies are so tight and so beautiful... they just don't sing that tightly anymore because...well, they rarely sing together that way anymore....those harmonies are a direct result of singing together day after day after day for years and years. And frankly Stevie has lost her range to be able to do those gorgeous high harmonies to Lindsey and her voice is so much more ragged...

While the romantic side of me would LOVE to see a BN performance, I'm not sure that doing all those old songs NOW really does them justice, because they are not the singers they were then (especially Stevie) and hearing the Stevie and Lindsey of now performing them at 60-something when they will be unfairly compared to the recordings of a couple of 20-somethings that we've all listened to so many times is just destined not to live up..... With the FM stuff, we've heard the toll time/age have taken over decades and decades of tours and performances, so it isn't as jarring (please don't insist they sound the same, they just don't).

No, it wouldn't be perfect, it wouldn't be the same, but it would still be sweet and meaningful, at least I would hope so. And not just to many of their fans, such as myself, but to them as well. Think of all the wonderful speeches Lindsey already has planned in his mind!

Their voices aren't the same, but they've worked that out with many other songs in recent years. Some are good, some are bad, but to me it's not a dealbreaker.

Personally, I don't care who is backing them up, what they sing, or how they sing it. I think it would be wonderful.

I know it wouldn't be the same. But, what about "Say Goodbye"? That was pretty tight harmony. "Soldier's Angel". They can still do tight harmony and it doesn't have to be in the same range. Keys can be changed. But, the poignancy of it would still be the same.

On an album with studio EQing and such, tight harmonies are possible. Live, however, is harder to do.

We seem to have two different things - a new BN album or just a BN tour?

^I thought "Say Goodbye" live was sublime, especially Lindsey's soundstage version where he is able to control the audio effects in much the same way he is currently doing on his solo tour. This also goes for "Soldier's Angel" at Stevie's Wiltern show.

I am in favor of both a BN release and tour. Tour is being discussed based on Stevie's most recent comments that it would be "easy" for them to do the live shows and that there is some kind of red tape holding up the cd release.
