I remember Long Way to Go getting considerable airplay on rock stations and making top 10 on the rock chart so it I was sure it would be the next single after Rooms On Fire. I was very surprised when 2 Kinds of Love was released as the 2nd single. It seemed like that just stopped OSOTM and any kind of momentum it had right in its tracks. Rooms wasnt top 10 pop, but it got played and was in heavy rotation on MTV for at least a short while. Long Way to Go could surely have made top 20 as well and helped make OSOTM seem more like a hit or helped more people remember it. After 2 kinds of love tanked ( I dont think that charted or got played anywhere) , Long Way to Go maybe couldve came back as a single but then along came Whole Lotta Trouble. I liked it, thought it was funky and different (so maybe it would stand out) for Stevie but by that point the whole album and any impact it might make was hopelessly lost. I dont think that song charted or got played anywhere either.
Whether you love or hate OSOTM, Im sure we all agree it could have made at least a little bigger splash than it did with better marketing/singles choices.
I totally agree with this !!!!!

I really think its sad for us loyal fans that she doesn't really 'treat' us to a special set of music. Really other than the BD concert setlist the SA tour setlist was great & the Enchanted set list was great too. It had a good deserve list of songs. I mean I DO understand the comfort of doing the 'usual' hits etc. I just don't understand even for her own sake not changing things up for herself?? I'd get so tired of doing the exact same setlist night after night etc. She has a wonderful catalog of 'her' own SONGS to do thats why I don't understand the covers etc. Why she's afraid to sing her own songs. Even the lessner known ones---its really bothered me & really I'll not ever ever understand it. Considering how many yrs left she might tour its another missed boat really. It seems like more 'missed boats ' with her solo & for Fmac. Thats what bothers me. She could do one song from each solo LP/cd & than some. Its sad really. IMO anyway.

I know it might be a pain in the a$$ for the band Stevie should mix up the setlist at every show to make it different. She knows fans like us follow her on the road. Her and the band know all the tunes in memory.I think it should be no problem.Ever show will be fresh instead of the same ole lineup every night which reminds me of a same old loop tape that plays the same tunes every 90minutes Like a 8 track tape.

Great point--thats why I don't feel the need to spend the $$ to see her live anymore (besides the ticket prices). I just play a old cd of a previous concert & be just as happy now really. Sad but true. I agee she could change up her setlist if not everyshow at least once a week that why it would be 'fresh' for all concerned. I guess we could say that about all artists too. How many like Stevie play the exact same setlist night after night because its easy really?? makes you wonder--sad but so true.

She must get board with it every night. Some artists do mix up their sets.

Maybe someone can explan why she can't mix the setlist up.

I don't know if it because of everyone on the daily basis will get screwed up.or a union thing.

MOST artists mix up their sets night to night. Bruce Springsteen has like three or four sets that he rotates night after night. Billy Joel has a core set that he swaps out different songs night after night. In fact for one of his tours he let the crowd decide what the next song would be. He'd announce what the two or three choices were and based on the applause, he would do that song.
Most other artists have a set of say 25 songs that they pull from for a finished set of say 18 songs. Years ago I saw Martina McBride and she was about to do a song, but before it started she said "Hang on a minute" and turned and said something to her guitar player. She then said "We're supposed to do a song here that I just don't feel like singing it tonight, instead I want to do this one, it wasn't a hit or even a single, I just like it and it's my show so I'll do what I want!!!"
Stevie's rigidness to change comes from trying to do "Rumours" songs on stage in 1976 before the album had come out and the songs got a weak reception. What she fails to recall was that in 1976 people going to a Mac show were still wanting to hear "Oh Well", "The Green Manalishi", "Hypnotized" etc. They didn't want to have those dropped to hear something they didn't know. But that was then, this is now.
It's probably too late for Stevie to become spontanious on stage, but it would be nice. Instead her shows, as well as the Fleetwood Mac shows, are carbon copies night after night. The funny thing is Stevie says how great it is to get to perform something new. But no one is stopping her except her.

You're right, none of the other charts are as prestigious as
the Top 100 is for singles. That's why I didn't consider it a
hit. I do like the song though.

And her chart positions weren't helped by being an aging,
drugged up out of shape rock star at the time.

I'm somewhere in the middle of love and hate for OSOTM.
I like many of the songs but as I've mentioned in other threads,
I hate the way they recorded Stevie's voice. Whatever voice
processor or studio magic they used ruined Stevie's voice on
that record.

You made so many great points. Just think if in all of her solo shows she'd done tons of different songs even it not every night every couple of nights. I'll never understand why her & Mac just kept the shows the 'same' night after night--really that MUST have been boring as heck to perform that way--changing things is good--I do recall Stevie in an interview (sorry don't recall what interview it was/radio show I think?) where she stated that some songs are good on the record but NOT to be sung 'live' REALLY to me thats just wrong because if it was good enough to record it its good enough to sing it LIVE---it may not come off perfect but 'whom' says it has to be perfect note for note (which to me not necessary). Just think of all the great songs that we'll not ever hear live during those era's too. Sad very very sad.

I was so disappointed during the dance tour...I had watched the incredible concert video about a million times and then later at the Dance concert live in Phoenix, Lindsey spoke word for word what he had said during the taping of the Dance concert...it felt staged and insincere. I was wondering "doesn't he know that we have all watched the famous video?" It was like he was reading a script.

I dont mind the idea of Stevie or any performer during a concert, night after night, repeating the inspiration of a song or a description of her mind set when writing a song...but Lindsey actually repeated what was suppose to be sentiment...it lacked sincerity... Ive seen the same with Celine Dion and Taylor Swift

I think maybe there was a lot of nervousness associated with The Dance. No one was really sure where things were going; I seriously doubt any of them really knew at that point if the band was actually getting back together again or not. They hadn't toured together in what, 10 years? No one had even heard of Bill Clinton the last time they had toured together. And I personally suspect that behind-the-scenes emotions really were running very high - for real. The description of that fight in 1987 made it sound really really bad. No or very little contact in all that time. So I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to play it as safe as possible. Let's face it, at that point in time they needed a script 'cause they couldn't say what they were really thinkin'.

I was at the opening night of The dance tour in Hartford. I expected the set to be more or less the same, which it was, what I didnt expect was the between song banter to be EXACTLY the same. What was funny were the people next to me being totally amazed as I announced the next song before it was done. They asked me if I'd seen rehearsal or something, I said that they were just doing the new album.
As a side note, the biggest mistake with that tour was doing Oh Daddy right after Stand Back. SB blew the roof off the place and then you had to come WAY down for Oh Daddy. Oh Daddy works well on stage, but not after a roof burner.
