Default "Expanded & Remastered" Album Editions

I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I really joined because I wanted to know what other FM fans thought about remastering & expanding their albums.

The first four Fleetwood Mac albums (which were originally released on the Blue Horizon label) have all been fully remastered & expanded by Sony Music, so there's no problem there.

Their current record label (Warner Bros.), who have been their record label since 1968/69 have only bothered releasing three of their albums as Expanded & Remastered editions. These albums are Fleetwood Mac, Rumours and Tusk. These were done in 2004, but there have been no more since.

The FM albums from 1969's Then Play On to 1974's Heroes Are Hard To Find and the albums from 1980's Live to 1990's Behind The Mask have yet to see any kind of decent reissue. There are alot of tracks to add to these albums, especially with Tango In The Night. There are various B-sides, outtakes and occasionally 12" remixes that could be added to these albums.

Why have Warner/Rhino given up on the FM catalogue? The catalogue has been long neglected and should get the treatment it deserves. Does anyone else agree with me, and does anyone else know why all these albums have been forgotten about by Warner/Rhino? I've messaged them quite a few times about this subject, but each time I just a message saying, "Thanks for your input. We'll forward your message to our suggestion box".

If anyone else wants to message them suggesting what I've suggested, then the e-mail address is [email protected]
Hopefully, the more people who suggest this to them the more likely they are to get up off their arses and do something about it!

Hey Andrew! Welcome to the Ledge.

Honestly? Your guess is as good as mine. We all seem to feel the same way about the Mac's back-catalogue and we'd love to see it remastered. Perhaps the source material is just so poorly degraded now? There could be a dozen reasons why. In the end, I'd wager it just doesn't "make sense" financially for WB.

I forgot to mention that back in 2004 when the first three Expanded & Remastered editions were released, Warner said in their original press release that all the albums from 1975's Fleetwood Mac to 1995's Time were to be reissued. I guess the first three didn't sell that well and that is why they pulled the plug on this project.

I also believe that it's about time Lindsey and Stevie's catalogue of albums were reissued aswell.

It's all about timing, too. Those reissues would probably "sell better" if they were released with a coinciding Mac tour... DVD release... new album release, etc.

Hi Andrew, welcome and thanks for start the thread!
I also think that some albums must be expanded & remastered, specially Mirage and Tango In The Night.
Maybe this work started with 25 Years: The Chain, releasing another songs, not only edited, you know, new versions, extended, some mixes, etc...
But, back to Mirage and Tango, yes, they must be remastered and expanded. Od promises that the label have not reached yet! In Tango, songs like You & I (part I), Ricky, Book of Miracles, and others could be good options, but in Mirage, the choose is hard. There's lot of demos, but I believe that with Mirage is more important a good remastering, a better sound.
Regards! Mark.

It seems like many moons ago that Mobile Fidelity
did their magic on Mirage (vinyl). If so, I'd be happy
to hear that remastering job on digital.

How many other Mac related discs had the Mobile Fidelity
treatment? One for sure was Bella Donna.

Hi Andrew, welcome!
I agree with you on the fact that there are a lot of BEAUTIFUL tracks that need to be added on future remastered albums. And in Tango in the night were missing some gems such as "Ricky", the instrumental and Jellybean dub versions of "Little Lies", "Book Of Miracles", "Down endless street", "At the fair" and "Special kind of love"! Let's hope we won't have to wait 30 years to have expanded & remastered editions. We'll be too old

I also would love to see expanded/remastered editions of these albums, who knows if it will happen anytime soon.

That said, perhaps with their upcoming tour, they simply should release a new album that compiles all these B-side tracks, unreleased tracks, demos, etc and simply call it Deep Vault or The Vaults.

That would be fine with me. I just want something sort of new from ten, even if it just old stuff brin released officially.

Even I'd they did nothing else but finally release BN on CD and add a track or two from that to the set list.... It would give them something to promote!

BN released on CD is great too.

I think these remastered/extended albums are really only appealing to the fans. A casual buyer with the choice of spending say $20 on an expanded edition or $10 for the album would be a no brainer. They want the album cheaper and as it was originally released. Doubt they car for the extra tracks, especially the demos and roughs.

With an album devoted exclusively to rare tracks is more appealing, plus they can throw in a couple new songs as well.

I personally believe that Expanded & Remastered editions of the albums are a far better idea than a release dedicated to just b-sides, outtakes, demos etc etc. I would like to see both the original albums remastered and the b-sides, outtakes & demos added, like they did back in 2004 with Fleetwood Mac, Rumours and Tusk, but that's just my opinion. These releases may only appeal to the fans, but Warner Bros. should be thinking about the fans and what they would like to see released. I've seen artists alot less popular than FM have their back catalogue remastered with bonus tracks, so surly FM's catalogue deserves this treatment? Hopefully The Coffee Plant Demos will be added to a Buckingham/Nicks reissue, if there ever is one. These tracks are outstanding!

I would love to have Mirage expanded as the outtakes I've heard of 'Smile at You' and 'If You Were My Love' are fantastic. It'd be great to have quality versions of these. It's a shame the last reissues stopped before they got to Mirage. Tango In The Night would be interesting too - 'Joan of Arc' and the demo of 'Everywhere' are intriguing. I think the albums after Tango would be slim pickings for quality outtakes!

It's one of my fav songs from the TITN album: "Everywhere". This is the remastered version. Simply amazing.
