Reissue of 25 Years: The Chain 4CD

I only own the 2cd version of this so intrigued as to whether the 4cd version has any rarities not available elsewhere??? Not a bad price in the UK, £11.97 for 4cd's.

Fleetwood Mac will re-release the four CD box set 25 Years – The Chain on June 11th on Reprise.

25 Years – The Chain was originally released in 20 years ago and compiles seventy-two tracks spanning the band’s history from their formation in 1967 to 1992. In addition to a number of their defining songs – Go Your Own Way, The Chain, Tusk, Little Lies, Rhiannon, Don’t Stop and Everywhere – the release also compiles a number of alternate mixes, outtakes and live performances.

Like the Rod Stewart Storyteller reissue from late last year, 25 Years – The Chain will be available at a bargain price (less than £12 on amazon) and comes in new packaging – a double ‘fat box’ CD with a sixty-eight page booklet and outer slip-case.

I think its a UK only release but you can order from Amazon UK and the VAT charge should be removed. Not sure how much the shipping would be, worth checking the amazon uk site.

Hmm, so they have the 4CD version at £11.97 and the 2 CD version at £41.99 (I mean I know the 3rd party sellers there are probably lower but still...)?

The only problem with this package(and you will discover this yourself) is some songs that it says are remixed are not and others are that are not indicated as such. I always figured Mick put this together when he was stoned.

Viv- I totally agree! I love having the alt mixes...but I wish they were in release order! Actually I wish the Mac would release 1 Greatest Hits with the real versions-not live-not remixed-not alt and then re-do this box with more radio edits, alt mixes, ect, but in a better running order! I can always Dream, right??

I joined BMG music CD club back in 1997 JUST to get this set. It was the only place that still had it available around the Dance era and has not been in print anywhere else since that I recall. It's a great set and a good mix. I seldome listen to disk four but the others did a good job of introducing me to FM at a time that I only had my moms old copy of rumours, The Dance and FM greatest hits..

As a HUGE fan of the Green and Welch years, there were a lot of early classics that skipped on the boxed set, while more questionable post-1975 songs made it on. I'm not so sure it was by choice, since the rights to the pre-1975 material can get complicated, as Cliff Adams/Davis owned the rights to the original recordings, but lost them in the divorce from Mich Reynolds (Nigel Watson's sister). Although, technically, I think the band could have re-recorded the songs... Most criminally left off include:

Remember Me
Miles Away
Before The Beginning
I Loved Another Woman (either the original or Vito)
Tell Me All The Things You Do
Future Games (slightly less so with the alternative version of "Lay It All Down", though THIS was the classic)
Revelation
Bermuda Triangle (although oddly was on the "Selections" set)
Some live version of "Get Like You Used To Be"
The Boston Tea Party version of "Jumpin' At Shadows" (which I still hear at blues fests)
"I'd Rather Go Blind" (okay, not Fleetwood Mac, but Christine's pre-1975 hit)
Any Buckingham Nicks song (i.e. "Don't Let Me Down Again" which couldn't be any less relevant here than on the 1987 set list...)

Really, as a proper introduction to the 1975-1987 band, all they needed were THESE two discs (and sadly, it COULD be an actual set-list if Christine were still in the band):

I'm under the impression that this re-release is no different than the original ie: all the songs are exactly the same. Unfortunate... but disappointment seems to come with the territory of being a Fleetwood Mac fan.

though was pretty cool.

The set is worth getting.

Not sure why that is such a bad thing. I think the box set is divine, even if it may have skimped on the Welch era. Otherwise, there is a lot to love- all of those alternate/single mixes, great new Christine songs, "Goodbye Angel" (my favorite Lindsey song), and the longest version of "Gypsy" ever released. It may not have been intentional, but I love the fact that the liner notes did not highlight everything special about the box; it was a bit like a treasure hunt. I remember balking initially at the $75 retail price back when this was originally released in 1992 (that was a lot of money twenty years ago!), but it was well worth it.

It does look like from the pictures of this newer edition that they used 2 hinged jewel cases instead of 4 separate ones which is good as will take less space and be easier to handle/less clunky but hopefully it's not at the price of losing some of the art/text in the original version.

I plan on buying this as I have a birthday in a few weeks. The used set I have doesn't contain Disc #2 nor the picture-booklet.
