Default Let's talk about boxed wine

It has always fascinated me, even though I hardly drink. Lately I've thought I might start. Maybe it will help me become a more mellow person. Franzia White Zinfandel, perhaps?

The tricky thing will be to remember not to take a Xanax after I've had some. I did that once. Got up to go pee and the next thing I knew, I was waking up on the bathroom floor.

Anyway...boxed wine. Yay? Nay?

Boxed wine? Nay. Definitely nay.

A friend of mine dressed up as a box of wine for Halloween one year. He had a tube that fed from a wine jug he carried around under his costume and a spigot to pour the wine from the tube into people's glasses. It was quite genius. This is the only way boxed wine should ever be consumed.

I need someone like that in my life.

My mom and my sister used to drink some kind of wine out of a box.I can't recall the name brand .I remember the box used to sit in the refridge so it will be nice and cold.I never tried it .I'm not a wine drinker.

I think lately, non-bottled wine has become more "in" and trendy. Boxed wine always used to be sort of a joke, especially among wine snobs, but I think today, wine companies are exploring alternate (and cheaper) ways to put the wine on shelves. I've seen boxed wine, mini bottles, and even little individual "juice box" wines. You can even get champagne in cans now.

So I don't think there's anything "per se" wrong with boxed wine. I think it really depends on the brand, and going with what you like. Franzia probably isn't the highest quality, but if you like it, who cares? Problem is, you're making a big commitment...buying all that wine only to discover you don't like it.

For that reason, if you're just looking to start drinking wine more regularly, I'd probably suggest starting with some cheaper bottles...then figuring out what kind of wine you like. Then go ahead and try different boxed wines.

Right now, with the economy like it is (and given I'm a commissioned salesperson) I can't afford to drink anything other than boxed wine

Actually I don't know about elsewhere in the world but in Australia the cask wine is actually pretty good, quite drinkable and of reasonable quality.

It's the "in" thing right now. I'm not above drinking boxed wine, but I'm not a huge fan of wine so I don't honestly care if it's good quality or not - only that it tastes good!

Francis Ford Coppolla winery has wine in a can. Now that's weird to me.

Thumbs up

I love my wine like Christine McVie does!
There's good wine and bad wine regardless if it's in a bottle or box. Actully many stars have started drinking the Black Box wines.

The only problem for me is that there seems to be no end to it!....Then, before I know it "There's Trouble in Shangri-La!"

I think I'll go have a glass now, or two, or............

I think even Christine would agree.

Also, glass bottles are widely recycled whereas the metallic bags that the wine is in within the box, aren't. So you can't pull the "But it's ok! I'm getting drunk and helping the environment!" card with boxed wine.

If I had Chris' money, boxed would be a no no, too.

Okay, I'm a closet box wine drinker. ONLY when alone. Never let my friends see it.... only bottles when people are over...

There. I feel better.

Agreed Homer! If I had her money I'd be bottles only too!

But at least I know I'm not alone in the closet alone with my box of wine!
