Oh, I watched that too. Billy Joel among others.

Lindsey met Anne when she was living with Steve Martin. Are you telling me he dated her too? Then wrote songs about it?

Call me a wuss but I'd never go out with a friend's ex then brag about it. But I'm not a rock star.

What did she say?

They've been friends since before Fleetwood Mac. Probably not anymore.

But, Lindsey does admire Steve's banjo picking.

The way Anne described their meeting, she did not know Lindsey at all. They met on a plane. He was listening to drum tracks on a cassette and she thought he was a drummer and he just smiled about that. He gave her his name and number and she told a frriend about him and the friend told her he was in Fleetwood Mac.

I don't think Steve Martin and LB were the hanging out together type of friends.

LB: Yes, exactly.

MR: Obviously you have a love of folk, in addition to a love of all kinds of music.

Oh, yes. They did mention that more than one of the callers had written songs about her.

Well, that instantly sprung to mind when you said Billy. Without even Googling, "It's just a fantasy.. it's not the real thing. Sometimes a fantasy.. is all you need."

Hey, I've had a long distance relationship. I know.

Guess the logical thing to do now is write a song about it. I could use the "Play In The Rain" medley. Noone'd ever know.

Hey, I've had a long distance relationship. I know.
But with Miranda it was the added element of having a long distance relationship with someone they've never met and don't really know and the thing inside or missing inside that makes them gravitate towards that. Certainly, the fantasy lines you quoted mesh exactly with that idea.

The thing about a fantasy partner is that you can fill in all the empty places you don't know about them with what you want and need. So, it makes you feel whole which real relationships invariably fail to do.

And once again she calls to me.
Then she vanishes in thin air.
And how she takes my breath away
Pretending that she's not there.

Actually, you linking that to BTLH makes me think of Lindsey's quote about that song, how he wrote the shell of the song (the part from YDOYD), and then the verses later, or some of the verses later.

If I remember that part right, I always thought he was talking about Anne Heche for the "Somebody's got to see this through.." etc part, and the verses you quoted as possibly Lindsey's forbidden relationship with Christine.

The Miranda comment you made also makes perfect sense because the only way Anne and Lindsey's relationship worked was a physical attraction with a total mystery between them. it almost seems like there was a direct relationship between the more they knew each other and the less they were attracted.

Well, I love a repeated line, so I always link it to You Do or You Don't.

As for Bleed to Love Her, pretending that she's not there, I never thought of Christine, mainly because I always think of the words as pertaining to a woman he wanted from afar and couldn't really grasp and I never thought of it as being someone with whom he actually had extensive contact.
