TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT!

I've got my second Lindsey show in two days tonight and I will be ready for ACTION tonight!

I don't have to work today and so this time I don't plan on missing his first few songs like Thursday night.

Palm Desert is a straight shot for me on the 10E and, even though the venue is almost thirty more miles away than Royce Hall, it will take me about the same amount of time to drive there and the chances of not finding the theater and driving around in circles again are slim to none.

Thursday night I had to navigate five different freeways loaded with speeding cars and semis. There was one major wreck and three "almosts" including one guy in front of me on the on ramp of the 605S who was trying to drive his dying beat-up Toyata at 15mph onto the freeway instead of pulling over. What a tool. Trying to get around him was a death defying feat as people in back of me would not let me out of the pocket I was boxed into and, when I finally braved the tide of on-coming traffic, one driver in a two-ton pickup with his high-beams on, almost rear-ended me rather than let me into the left lane. It was a miracle he didn't and I thank the Lord above for protecting me. The only blessing was it was not raining. Then I surely would have been dead-Lord above or no Lord above as SoCal drivers DO NOT slow down for anything-including the rain! I think there all on crack!

Just got back from the heat of the desert sun otherwise known as Palm Desert. And, Lindsey wore the leather despite the heat-as if that could stop him. He was on fire tonight-much better than Thursday night at Royce Hall. And, he didn't spend most of the night with his eyes closed like he did at Royce and I got my fair share of eye contact and a couple of warm smiles to boot!

I almost got his towel tonight-he threw it to me but the guy beside me grabbed for it and his wife ended up yanking it out of his hand-it was quite a free for all. All in good fun. I did feel the sweat on it though as it sailed through my fingers. Oh well. I got another handshake and guitar pick so I'm good.

Same set list so nothing new. This time though he didn't need the lyrics to "Turn It On" although they were at his feet-he never looked down once. I tried peeling them off the stage after the show was over but the roadie asked me not to so I respected that. I guess Lindsey must have given him grief after the two guys snatched it from the stage at Royce Hall.

Well, got to get some shut-eye. One more show to go.

That's funny about the closed eyes. There was one time at Royce when a woman ran up to him (and this was when the rest of the audience was all sitting down) and she was standing right by his boot and she yelled something up to him and he must have heard her, but his eyes were closed and by the time he opened them again she was gone. I thought it was pretty amusing. What's he doing, lids shut like that? Fantasizing?

If times are so tight for Lindsey that his roadie has to save a paper copy of Turn It On lyrics after the show is over, for recycling, I think the Red Cross needs to be called in.

The woman, from Royce Hall, was also telling Lindsey that she loved him while bowing several times in supplication. She had a front row seat either at the end of my row or one of the side sections and she was also bowing to him and saying she loved him from her seat. A true fan!

I don't think the roadie was worried about saving a tree last night in Palm Desert. I think he got his arse chewed at Royce Hall. We all know Lindsey has a temper. As I said, Lindsey was "visibly perturbed" when he couldn't find the lyrics that was taped to the floor by his left foot all night then suddenly disappeared.

The guy who stole my sweat towel also tried to swipe one of the drum sticks that Wally literally was handing to another fan. The fan dropped one of them and the guy beside me literally dove over his wife to try and snatch one but he wasn't fast enough this time. Anyway, I let the towel go because I didn't want to get into a fist fight over a towel. I figured if he and his wife wanted it that badly, they could have it but I woke up this morning ticked off by it nonetheless. That's not the first time another fan has literally grabbed something right out of my hands at a concert and the interesting part was the other times it was also a man. So much for being a gentleman. That time I told the guy he was a jerk and he just ignored me. Some people are soul-less and heart-less.

Oh, and lastly I have a real gripe about female fans who don't have a front row seat and manage to make it to the stage. If you end up next to me, like at both Royce Hall and McCallum Theatre, please don't try to be my new best friend-it's irritating, distracting and totally creepy! There was a woman at McCallum last night who kept trying to engage my attention by constantly trying to catch my eyes which were constantly on Lindsey. Yuck!

There was a guy next to me who was doing this. He totally ditched his wife in Row N and came to sit in the front and wanted to have a non-stop conversation with everyone, even during songs. I ignored him and he even touched me to get my attention, which I found reprehensible. When I had no response to his comments he concluded that I must not be appreciating Lindsey! The only way I got rid of him was that his wife came up from the back and took one of the empty seats at the end of the second row. He finally left to join her and I assume he annoyed people over there for the rest of the evening.

I actually hate human beings. I wonder why I can't convince Lindsey to perform concerts at my house.

The touchers are the absolute worst. The woman last night kept doing that too and putting her hands next to mine on the stage as if we were best buddies.

They do this so that the ushers won't realize that they don't have a front row ticket-it has nothing to do with wanting to share a poignant Lindsey moment with us. They chose their "victims", as Stevie would say, carefully. Someone they know the ushers won't question-i.e., someone with a proven front row ticket.

Frankly, I could care less if someone successfully does their own creative upgrading-shall we say. Just leave me out of it. Actually, truth be told, I plan on going to the stage from my strategically chosen 5th row center aisle seat in Anaheim during GYOW. The center aisle has no seats and I won't be blocking anyone at the stage or invading another fans space.

I had a guy even buy me a beer in San Diego during the last FWM tour just so that he could stand next to me at the stage all night without the ushers questioning him. He had a seat in the nose-bleeds but he turned it into a front row experience for the cost of a long tall cool one. The good thing was he didn't try to chat me up or feel me up (Poor you. What a tool!). I was solo so he actually did me a favor because when I needed to go potty (probably because of the extra beer that I ended up drinking-smart guy huh!) he kept my place right at Lindsey's feet.

Anyway!

Going his own way

Lindsey Buckingham put on a clinic Saturday for the type of show the McCallum Theatre should present more often.

Buckingham, who emphasized his solo material over his Fleetwood Mac repertoire, talked of being part of a “big machine” with Fleetwood Mac, while his solo career was like a “small machine.” Fans are attracted to his “big machine” songs, such as “Go Your Own Way,” “Big Love,” “Never Going Back Again” and “Second Hand News,” and he met those expectations in a nearly two-hour concert. But he also re-arranged those classics, performed solo hits such as “Trouble” and “Go Insane,” and introduced challenging new solo material to satisfy his artistic drive.

It was so compelling, it made me want to see more solo “big machine” artists - like Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey or Brian Wilson.

Buckingham showed off tremendous vocal and guitar skills, deftly finger- picking or creating orchestral sounds with his complex chords and dynamics. But, when he wanted to astound, he simply reached back to the 1975 self-titled Fleetwood Mac LP and shredded on “I'm So Afraid.” He also did an amazing arrangement of “Tusk,” simulating the power of the USC marching band on the original.

Buckingham could have brought the crowd to a more emotional climax by ending with another Fleetwood hit, such as “Monday Morning.” Instead, he chose to finish with the title track from his new “small machine” album, “Seeds We Sew.” It certainly reaffirmed his status as an artist.

Well, it's been well documented that many cannot agree with that.

His lips are soft, huh?

ha! I may have missed all that documentation; so many threads so little time
what songs would you have preferred? I would have enjoyed one or two more from UTS

Well, I don't miss UTS stuff, generally, but I love Show You How, so I would have wanted that in the encore, like it was during the UTS tour.

The critics have complained in many reviews that Treason and SWS at the end are anti-climatic. I agree. I like Turn It On there though. Everyone is on their feet after GYOW and waiting to be revved up again and Turn It On is a different kind of song, yet still inspiring enough to keep the momentum. I just don't think Treason is a good follow up.

For me, UTS doesn't work as the first full band song. I would have liked them to start together with something far from the acoustic sound we'd been getting. Now, I'd love for them to come out with something boisterous along the lines of IKINW and then they could have gone to UTS afterwards.
