My picks are weird in that I do not believe in the devil, but I do find The Exorcist and The Omen scary. I have mixed feelings about Rosemary's Baby, but Ruth Gordon is always worth watching.
I also like The Others.

On the other hand, slasher movies do nothing for me, and as for more recent releases, I found The Ring completely laughable. (Yes, I'm aware that there are many who would say the same thing about The Exorcist.)

Devil ~ It's not uber-scary, but it sure did freak me out.

I really love the Saw series. They really leave you clinging to each other.

My favourties are Misery, Saw, The Amityville Horror, A Nightmare On Elm Street (original or remake)

I've always been a fan of Vincent Price movies. I don't really think that you need gratuitous gore in order for a horror to be successful. I've always been rather too impressionable with the more gory films, anyway. My imagination runs away with me and I frighten myself to death. The remake of Thirteen Ghosts, anything involving Zombies, Final Destination and Pirahna 3D are particularly scarring for me lol.

Of cables 500 channels, I was surprised to find the MGM channel plays such classic made-for-tv movies I love. I watched some movie last night with Valerie Harper in it from 1977 called Night Drive where a maniac follows her around everywhere she goes. Was kind of creepy and I love classic thrillers like that of yesteryear. They don't make films and tv movies like that much today.

Oooh! Every night in October should be "Scary Movie Night". Here are a few of my favorites:

1. Halloween (The original, not the crappy remake)
2. Friday the 13th (Parts 1-4 are good)
3. The Shining
4. A Nightmare on Elm St. (the original and part 3)
5. The Strangers

If you want good spooky, but not scary choices, these movies always put me in a Halloween mood:

Sleepy Hollow
The Lady in White
Something Wicked This Way Comes

Halloween - all of em
Psycho
Dark Shadows - the movies and the TV series

I tend to like more "spooky" ghostly movies that all out horror and gore and that mess.

I LOVE horror/thriller movies. While I like a good amount of that I see, here are a few I reccomend.

1. Halloween (1978 or 2000's remake) - #4 and H2O are both good movies in the series as well.
2. Friday the 13th (Part 2)
3. Freddy vs. Jason
4. Scream (1, 3, and 4)
5. It
6. Saw part 1
7. Trick R Treat
8. The Amityville Horror (remake)
9. High Tension (This movie is foreign, but man is it scary)
10. The Descent (both parts)
