There's nothing wrong with the album cover, Stevie Nicks. Move on to another topic in your radio interviews. What did you want on the cover? A stark figure of you, dressed in white robes, set against the misty backdrop of a dreamworld, while a snow-white bird, an emerald-green bird, & a Jules Verne-gold bird fly across the aerial landscape, symbolizing the different colors found in the burgers you were serving at Bob's Big Boy?

There's nothing wrong with the picture to look at, but I don't think many of us, man or woman, would have wanted to pose for it ourselves. You're young, proud and eager, just starting out on your professional career and the first thing someone asks you to do is take off your shirt. It's humiliating and demeaning. Yeah, I wrote these wonderful songs, but to you I'm a commodity, no different than the the latest Playboy pin up. That hurts. What I don't like about her story is that . . . well on Seinfeld when they said "yadda yadda yadda" there were events taking place between the lines that aren't articulated. Yadda Yadda Yadda is a substitute for whole sentences, paragraphs and events that happened but aren't being related. But with Stevie, when she says Lindsey is angry and said, "stop acting like a child," I'm willing to bet that that's about all he said to her. I don't think he said, "I haven't gotten this far just for you to ruin my future with false modesty. If you don't take off that shirt, I'll rip it off!" He probably didn't brow beat or push her in any other way, except to say, "you're being childish," yet if you listened to her, you'd think he was an absolute beast. I think people read more into the stuff she doesn't say than is really there, they fill the hole with their imagination, believing she's summarizing events that are too horrible to recount in detail. Umm, probably not. It's like him saying "Who are you, Miss Las Vegas? Sammy Davis Nicks?" And she was so devastated she never moved her mic from her stand again. Oh, brother. Michele |

Stevie on the Buckingham Nicks album from Word Magazine, July 2011:
Why has the 1973 Buckingham Nicks album never come out on CD? You know what? I look at Lindsey and I say the exact same thing. And it's like a '57 Chevy that we both own - he owns half and I own half. And I have always said, "Let's put it out!" And it seems to me that he seems to say, "Well, yeah, let's put it out..." But it never happens! He says that one of your managers keeps the masters at their house... (Non-committal) Mmm-mmm... It's totally there and ready to go. We just have to go in and clean it up a little bit. I honestly don't know why. There is no reason. Because both of us would like for the people to have it.

I like the last one when she threw Keith Olsen into the deal and said they all 3 owned the car, which to me meant Keith has either the motor or the keys...and if it's just the keys then Lindsey's gonna have to hot-wire it and get Stevie to push it out of the garage....

I like to know if the master tapes are still playable. They probably have to bake the tapes in order to make them play.

Oh, the irony of a woman being labelled immature by a boy who wants her to get her puppies out. Not his finest hour, if you ask me.

I don't think that's the problem at all. What you have going on is more a political issue than a technical one.

The only other thing I've heard her say about the incident is that her dad told her she could have just said no. Looking at the VH1 outtakes from Destiny Rules when she was railing at Lindsey, "I knew you wouldn't like those songs, because I wrote them!" I would say she was being childish. It had nothing to do with her argument -- because I don't know what song she was even talking about and it could have been an excellent one -- but I found her immature based on her petulant way of expressing herself. If Lindsey had called her childish then, he would have been correct -- regardless of the song debate. For all I know, she could have done the same thing 30 years earlier, when she was 30 years younger and probably much more inclined to be childish. I'd have to hear Stevie tell me additional things about the BN cover session to cast judgment. Speaking generally though, if Stevie didn't want to take her top off and Lindsey was pressing her to do that, I think it's wrong and I wouldn't be with a man who did such a thing, especially if he went against me on such a personal issue in front of others. It would be tantamount to dating a pimp. However, since Stevie later complained that Lindsey didn't like her to dress sexy on stage and said that she wasn't telling him what to wear (although it would have been nice if she'd nixed that kimono of his) and she didn't appreciate him trying to tell her what to wear, because she wasn't his "woman" on stage, she was an entertainer, it makes me unsure that that LB would be the same person who would insist that she strip for an album cover, especially in a room full of other men. That conduct seems at odds with other descriptions of Lindsey that Stevie has given us. Michele Last edited by michelej1; 07-18-2011 at 11:43 AM.. |

I've always speculated that the argument was over the suggestion of "Say You Will" as the album title, because she follows that statement by saying, "well, think of something else then." |

One thing that just leaps out of the screen at me from Destiny Rules is that these two are peas in a pod when it comes to passive-aggressive modes of communicating. Yes, in that doc Stevie is wont to harp on old scores and rise to the bait far too easily, but for me LB has also managed to confuse maturity with the ability to massively insult and disregard someone else's opinion whilst not raising one's voice. As for the contention that it's not consistent for LB to be in favour of Stevie stripping for an album cover but not want her to look sexy on stage, I totally agree. And if I were writing that up as a fictional character, it would be a hard sell. But y'know I don't know why, because it's only hypocrisy, and actually quite common. Loz |

I thought she said, "well choose something else then," so I thought she meant he should choose another track of hers. Quote:
However, I agree that they are both passive aggressive. I was saying in another post that I didn't take his DR tearfulness to be genuine. I think he was crying to move the hair-twirling Stevie and manipulate her into getting what he wanted. In Destiny Rules I saw them both playing chess and positioning to get the upper hand. This constant leveraging was apparent from the time they met with the record execs until the record engineering scenes. Lindsey threatened to take his masters and go home if he didn't get his way. Stevie threatened not to do a full tour -- knowing that Lindsey craved the tour money to pay for his extra studio costs. And they have a habit of not talking to one another, as the whole incident with Karen and the unsigned papers and Lindsey calling Tony on the phone proved. But I never said that Lindsey was mature in Destiny Rules or at any other time. I just said that I didn't have enough details about the Buckingham Nicks photo shoot. She said she was crying and already posing when Lindsey said, "you're being childish." I want to know what he was saying before they got to the naked, posing stage and if he was joining with the photographers in telling her to take her shirt off. Michele |
