Amen to that. Excuse my morbidity for just a sec, but when you think about Lindsey's dad and older brother [who was a champion swimmer] ... you know?

I'm still waiting to see them live [and they're coming back, you know] and I do want to hear those classics, and I would feel cheated if they weren't played. I guess it's just a clash of interests between the stalworth [sp!] fans and the new-age obsessives.

It's all good. It makes for lively discussion as far as I'm concerned! ChiliD probably has forgotten more about Fleetwood Mac than I'll ever know, so I really appreciate where he's coming from. Our Fleetwood Mac tastes just vary a little biut, that's all.

Would you really feel cheated if you went to a Fleetwood Mac concert and they played "Dreams," "Landslide," "Big Love," "Sara," "Tusk" and "Don't Stop" but not "Gypsy," "The Chain," "Go Your Own Way," "Rhiannon," "Second Hand News" or "Silver Springs"? Or if you went to a Fleetwood Mac concert and they played "Gypsy," "The Chain," "Go Your Own Way," "Rhiannon," "Second Hand News" and "Silver Springs" but not "Dreams," "Landslide," "Big Love," "Sara," "Tusk" or "Don't Stop"? Hmm. Not quite sure what you mean .... what I meant was I would feel cheated if they didn't play _the_ classics, general classics, you know? I'd be disappointed in particular if they didn't play a few, like Big Love, The Chain, Gold Dust Woman, Silver Springs, Stand Back. Stand Back espesh. And if [when?] they play Landslide I'll have to be carried out.

Using your logic, John McVie is an unknown. I don't believe that chiliD was saying they were AS famous or popular as Lindsey and Stevie. But, fans of Fleetwood Mac knew Billy. He had been on a fairly successful studio album (at least by the standards of non-Rumours incarnations), two compilation albums, and a concert video that sold well enough to eventually get re-released on DVD, not to mention music videos shown on MTV and VH-1. So, saying he was an UNKNOWN is a bit of a stretch.

Dave Mason is in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame as a member of Traffic, so therein lies the flaw of your logic. Unknowns don't just get into the Hall. Hell, even well knowns dong get into the Hall (just ask Bob Welch). "Feelin' Alright" is a rock staple. "We Just Disagree" is an AOR staple. Dave played acoustic guitar on Jimi Hendrix's "All Along The Watchtower," which is considered to be one of THE greatest rock songs ever. His "Alone Together" album has always been an album held in VERY high regard. Lindsey Buckingham even credited that album for giving him ideas for songwriting.

Bekka is/was unknown with audiences in general, but such is the Bramlett legacy. They've always been the musician's musician. They've always been more the insiders who make stars shine rather than be the actual stars. Look at all of the artists who Bekka has worked with (her parents' list is even more stunning...THEY were the pair that convinced Eric Clapton that he could be a lead vocalist!). Plus, from everything I've read, Bekka has actually turned down huge album deals for fear of being overhyped. That may seem silly to you or me, but remember, she grew up around VERY famous, A-list musicians, and maybe saw things from a completely different perspective.

Really, the only songs they HAVE to do are "Don't Stop" (when a song is used a theme song for a successful presidental campaign, you're going to have to play it, like it or not) and "Go Your Own Way" (really, their only "fist-in-the-air" anthem). I could personally live without hearing those songs (especially Stevie singing on "Don't Stop"), but I think more people in crowds would be demanding their money back if they didn't get at least those songs. Those two songs aren't going anywhere, so it's really not even worth discussing.

And, honestly, I can live with "Dreams," "Rhiannon," "Big Love," "Tusk," "Gypsy," and "Sara." I mean, those WERE the hit songs, and I can respect their decision to play them. But, I could do without every other song from "Fleetwood Mac" and "Rumours" that get shoved down our throats (regardless of who's in the band) every tour. And really, they COULD do a good job of changing up the set-list and not having the canned speeches.

See, I can understand in a way some people's disdain of the whole Rumours "phenomenon." It was more than ubquitous in the late 70's. I even remember Lindsey complaining about that. For me it's different. I got inot them at such a young age I was never caught up in all that. I know it seems funny, but to me Fleetwood Mac are like a bunch of old friends I visit everyday.
