Dogs have eyebrows (cats don't), so their faces are much more expressive, that is why we always think they know what we are saying to them!

Huh - I never even thought about the eyebrows...

I'm partial to dogs for sure- but I'm really allergic to cats My grandma also used to tell me that cats are evil lol...AND you animal lovers will HATE this story (it's awful...)

My grandpa was so annoyed with the many cats that were coming into his yard and using it as a litter box - then they got a pool and it was causing some cat issues...well - he then started sitting on the back porch with a BB gun...and he'd just peg cats as they came into the yard ahh..my family...gotta love 'em......

Anyway - I love dawgies - if I Could have cats I would because I find them amusing

But for now - I'm SO happy with my Clancypoo...she's really made a huge difference in my life

My neighbors shot one of my cats in the head last year, with a BB gun. She died a couple weeks later.
I know several guys who hunt, that tell me they shoot any cat they see out in the woods. I just don't GET how they can have no empathy for them. Snakes are the only thing I kill.....and moles!

They make such wonderful companions. I don't know if I'll ever have another
one after this one, though. It's just too heartbreaking to lose them. I swore after my previous one (a dachshound I had for 17 years), that I'd never have another. Cash kinda came to me on what I thought would be temporary basis. Temporary turned into forever.

When a cat dies, shed a tear, dig a hole, get new cat. Lather, rinse, repeat.(NO offense to the cat people- to me, a cat is a pet, a dog is a child)

I guess that's the difference between cat and dog folks - I'm pretty sure cat people feel the same way as dog folks about their dogs - you summed it up nicely though - I totally feel like Clancy is my little adopted kid lol.....

We lost our family dog last year and it was horrible....but I just love having them in my life - it's SO hard losing them - but I feel like the time I get with them - and the memories are totally worthwhile

Well, I have snake ISSUES! My Mom always said it was her fault, that I learned to be terrified through her. I mow 4 of my 5 acres, so I see several every year. Although, 2004 was the YEAR OF NO SNAKES!!! I usually see 5-6 a year, and I saw NONE last year! I can't TELL you how happy that makes me. Maybe the word is out in the snake community, that this David guy mows with a handgun, so stay the hell out of his yard.

I know that they are worth the heartbreak of losing them. I met two women yesterday at U of IL, both of whom had pugs with terminal cancer, just hoping to buy a few more months with them. One of the ladies and I cried when we started talking about her baby.

Oh my - that is heartbreaking - I've never had a dog die in front of me.

The dog we recently lost - I was watching her once weekend when her back legs completely went out - she needed thousands of dollars worth of surgery -and that wouldn't have fixed her joint problem so she would have a miserable existence....we decided to put her down....it was so heartbreaking...

My whole family went to the vet's office and she was SO happy to see us all - happy and wagging her tail and licking us all - but she couldn't move - and we were all bawling like babies too.....only my brother-in-law stayed with her until the end - we couldn't take it and left.....but I'm so glad that we got to be there with her at th end.....though it was so hard....

I've only had Clancy for a little under a month now - but I'm already SO attached to her....she's such a little lovey.....

Mine is 16lbs and I've been trying to get her to lose weight. So far I'm just putting less food in her bowl and it's working, I just don't want her to have back problems. It doesn't help that she thinks she's a cat and jumps up and down everywhere, though. Her favorite thing to do is sleep in my bed. She'll jump onto it, get under the covers, roll onto her back, and put her head on a pillow. It's a riot. She evens sleeps with her paws up in the air.

I feel your pain, though. I've gotten three sick animals from shelters and they've all died on me and it's devastating.

I'm glad everyone was there to see her. I've made my mind up, that when the time comes(hopefully a long time off, but...)that I want to be there holding him. God, I dread that day.
With my dachshound, we "maybe" should have put her down in her last year of life. She lost most of her eyesight, and her appetite for dog food(she ate nothing but cooked hamburger, and lemon cookies for the last year- she NEVER lost her appetite for these two things. She loved them both!). But, she wasn't in pain. She'd be bed bound for a week, but then get back to running around for a week. But, we finally knew the time had come. I moved back home for the last three days, and slept on the kitchen floor next to her(do I have dog issues, or what?). I called our vet, right down the street, and told them I didn't want to make her suffer through sitting in the waiting room. They told me to bring her in in 20 minutes, and they'd put her right down, without waiting. I laid down on the deck with her, and she had her heart attack about 5 minutes later. It was like her final gift to me was saving me the pain of putting her down.

I took Clancy to the vet withing seven days of getting her- and she seems fine..I'm hoping she's still got some good years ahead of her....she is a bit overweight too though - so I've been feeding her less and walking her more....

However, in the short time I've had her she seems to already be spoiled lol - and I'm pretty sure that she thinks she's the Alpha Dog - so I've been trying to set up who's in charge....lol....dogs are great..

And I've always wanted a Daschund....they are SOOO cute.....I can just imagine your little mini curling up in bed...too cute

Can she cover herself up?
Does she sit up, begging style, for hours on end?
Brandy would sit like that so she could see out the door, for hours like that!
We were so lucky that Brandy never had the back problems dachs have, especially given her size.
