Default Who sounded like Fleetwood Mac?

Looking for Beatles mentions in Mick's book, after reading the recent Early Years post, I founded this, after Mick told about the 1978 Grammy night.

Most critics seemed to agree that our writers were producing hit songs that fit into the modern romantic tradition established by the Beatles. But my favorite theory was that we were one of the first white groups since the Mamas and the Papas to successfully bring female voices into the context of rock music. We didn't sound like anyone else.

I remember several bands with male + female voices, but many of them are post-Rumours. Human League, Eurythmics, ABBA, B-52s, Starship, but they don’t sound like Fleetwood Mac. Older ledgies may remember older bands that could deny Mick’s theory.

The only song I remember that I thought it was Fleetwood Mac for just few seconds was Middle of the Road’s Soley Soley, their 1971 single (I was 5 that year, I actually I heard it for the first time in the late 70s). But that was just one song, and I heard the DJ mentioning the band so the confusion was brief.
But with just male or female vocals, probably there were other bands that sounded a bit like Fleetwood Mac, weren't there?

Besides, Fleetwood Mac described as “soft” rock, but “modern romantic tradition”?

Maybe not rock, per-se but Jefferson Airplane?
