Another title track for Say You Will

Maybe this was discussed in the past, but I couldn’t find a thread about it to resurrect. What would be a better title song for the 2003 album? I agree with WalkAThinLine Say You Will is not a completely irredeemable song. It’s not one of my favorites but I don’t dislike it, I don’t usually skip it while listening Mac songs. Though I do dislike the children choir.

But IMHO it was a very bad choice to name the album after that song. So, what other song would have been a better choice? Too many songs to include in a poll. So just post your choices. If choosing a Stevie song was the decision, I would say Running Through the Garden. Destiny Rules could be another good title, but I find RTTG to be more cool.

I don't find an ideal title among Lindsey songs, but some phrase from their lyrics may be a good album title. Perhaps one that meant they miss Christine.

Well, like Tusk it’s a double album.
So maybe they call it ‘Come’
That would be kinda circular. Double albums, both with title that have a risqué reference/meaning.

Good question. I don’t have any issues with Say You Will but I do think Destiny Rules would have been a better choice. ( and I think it’s a better song)

I also dont care for the children chorus but I dont think the song is so bad. I think the song would have charted better than Peacekeeper. Stevie never did get the first single off any Mac album. I am sort of in the Stevie camp on this one. She stated that she never could write or craft pop singles. She said when she wrote it, she said if I ever wrote a hit song, this is it. She was disappointed and so was the band in the lack of success SYW had. Mick says during the documentary that they are allowing Lindsey to have veto decisions and if the album only sells 500k copies he will be crushed. Guess what? The album only sold 500k copies.

It was written during the Dance when they were trying to convince Christine to stay just a little bit longer for an extended tour. I would not change it. Say You Will is one of the better options for a title track, with Destiny Rules being the only superior option in my opinion. Of Lindsey's tracks, I could possibly see the title Peacekeeper being selected, but none of the others are incredibly suitable. However, seeing that this turned out to be their last album, perhaps Say Goodbye would have been fitting.

I was under the impression that "Say You Will" was one of the four new songs that Stevie brought to the recording sessions in 2002.

It was. The song was written/inspired during the Dance era when they were saying SAY YOU WILL to Christine.

I remember not being wild about SYW as an album title at the time, but in retrospect I kind of like it.

Maybe a non-song title, in the style of Rumours or Mirage, would have been better. Though I don’t have any great ideas.

As for the song SYW, I think the chorus is fantastic. But the verses are listless - rather flat melody (Stevie’s fault) and pedestrian instrumentation (Lindsey’s). It was a real missed opportunity to have a great single.

I’m ok with Say You Will, but Destiny Rules had that mystical kind of vibe that Mirage and Tango in the Night had. Say You Will works for me because it could have several different meanings, as many have pointed out previously- as a plea to Christine to stay on; to the fans to continue with them; to each other as they recorded the album. SYW and Peacekeeper are two of the most commercial songs on the album, and they’re two of my favorite songs. But I understand when others say they’re too cringe… I just don’t mind.

None of the song titles jump out at me as good album titles. But maybe a line from one of them would have sounded good as a title.
