Knock me over with a feather.
During round two of serious listening to Tusk Deluxe I came upon a startling surprise. While immersed in the second disc Alternate Tusk that guitar, that guitar (think Rudolph) on Brown Eyes reached out and practically slapped me in the face. That had to be Peter Green. I'd never noticed that before. Hadn't even read about it here (though using the search feature here, I can see it's been talked about). Maybe it was due to the serious listening session I had tonight. Meaning no phones, no company, played start to finish with no breaks. In a dark room on my best system. Tusk deserved this. And at this point how many more times do we get to listen to something new from Fleetwood Mac? Even if it's alternates. Now I question my ears. Was it there all along? If so, how did I miss that all these years? Was it just deeper in the mix? Or is Peter only on the alternate? I'm going to be able to answer the questions myself once I get through listening to the entire Deluxe Set in order. And as I've tried my best to not read many of the comments about the set. A first listen without the influence of others is the preferred way I like to listen to music I really care about. There seems to be a question of whether or not Peter played on Tusk. My ears tell me that he did. No matter what Lindsey says. I look forward to listening to the rest of this spectacular album. |

Mick writes about this in his first book (playing with Peter during Tusk sessions).

I appreciate the responses.
I didn't remember that it was in Mick's book which I purchased all those years ago. I'll have to revisit it. I wish I were able to describe my surprise better. I was paying such close attention. If you guys saw how long it took to setup my speakers for the best soundstage possible you all would laugh. I'd been noticing how well their voices were dead center for most of the songs where there's a clear lead vocal. And then all of the sudden in walks Peter. |
