"Wild Heart" (the song) ~ THAT'S the kind of passion I'd like to see make a return to her vocal performances. Obviously the voice is not the same these days, but I know she can still deliver that passion.

I think she also delivered passion on Wide Sargasso Sea. Her voice is not perfect but that is a hard song to sing. The commitment is there and so it worked well.

Yeah. She delivered passionate vocal performances through most of the album. Even on songs I don't particularly like (The Ghosts are Gone). If you didn't really like her vocal style on the album, ok, fair. But suggesting they weren't "passionate" vocals is really missing the mark.

I was agreeing with you, Jondalar.
By "you" I meant... well, other people. That are not actually "you". ![]() Last edited by Dex; 05-10-2014 at 10:17 AM.. |

its ok. I am really intrigued with Stevie's new album. An 8th album. WOW! Not many solo acts get to an 8th album. There were a lot little surprises on IYD. One surprise was the variety of styles - each song was a different style. I wonder what is going to be explored on this record. |

[QUOTE=MikeVielhaber;1129454]You mean solo acts that are concurrently part of a band? 8 albums in nearly 35 years for someone with a dedicated solo career doesn't seem like an exceptional amount. probably most solo acts I listen to that have been around that long have at least that.[/QUOTE
Wow! Who? She was not dedicated to just a solo career. Between 1979 and 1989, 10 years, she was part of 7 studio albums, not including the greatest hits or live package. Most required touring. She worked her butt off. |

As far as passion goes, I think she really nailed it with You Can't Fix This. Maybe the lyrics are a little (lot) clunky but her vocal is fantastic.

I thought the best thing about the song was the music and the production. The song itself seemed half developed to me.

Interesting - for me at least, it's bit too raw, and could benefit from more a polished production. But I've never been a huge Dave Grohl fan. I actually like the lyrics.

Whatever she does on this album, I hope Stevie has pushed herself in her lyrics. What reads well as a poem or journal entry doesn't necessarily translate to a great lyric. In the past twenty years, there have been a lot of her songs with a great verse or a great chorus that are let down by lazy writing in the rest of the song.

If you divide 33 by 8 you get just over 4.1 years between Stevie Solo records!
Counting the two greatest hits packages, Soundstage Sessions and Enchanted it comes out to 2.75 years between releases. Counting the additional video packages, the HBO special, Redrocks, Soundstage and Documentary it is 2 years between solo "events" Not counting appearances on soundtracks, guest appearances on other people's albums, the one off "Christmas" things etc.... I would say that she has had a pretty good career in Spurts and Stats and grinding halts. (the period between 2001 and 2011 being the worst! |
