say you will vs Trouble In Shangrila

I'm sorry but Say you will doesn't even come close to Trouble in shangrila, that album is a masterpiece(almost).

Planets and Socerer are the real way demos should be reworked if you ask me.

there are 5 songs I'd rate 5/5and 7 I'd rate 4/5, the only song that rates low is that made me stronger.

This album is what got my hopes up for Say you will more than all of the past Mac records.

SYW is WAY stronger overall than TISL. I love about 6 songs on TISL, whereas I love pretty much ALL 18 on SYW. I'm not a HUGE fan of Stevie solo...I prefer her FM songs. Belladonna is my fave Stevie solo album.

TISL is great, dont' get me wrong, I love it. But SYW is outstanding. Every song is good, most importantly the newest ones she wrote (Yes, even Silver Girl

) Most favorite songs on TISL are the older ones (Sorcerer, Nomad, Planets... What a damn shame she didn't save those for this album to do with Lindsey! Ugh! ) I do believe she is getting better with age!

I love TISL, but no one, and I mean, no one can compare to Lindsey's production of Stevie's songs. I really wish Stevie would have saved "Planets" for SYW. I know the Mac had the opportunity to record it back in the late 70's, but I think LB nixed the idea. Too bad . . . that would have been intense!

Overall Id say TISL is an ok album, with the exception of a couple of tracks like Sorceror which is amazin, but to be honest, without Lyndsey, I just dont think Stevie is that good.

I'd have to say that SYW is stronger than TISL just for the fact that TISL has the two worst Stevie songs ever on it (in my opinon): Love Changes and I Miss You.

Has anyone put Stevie's SYW stuff with (some) of her TISL stuff to make the ultimate Stevie album?? I know I have

No contest: SYW is better!

I LOVE TISL and it's one of my fave Stevie albums, but it is incredibly weak when put up against SYW. Stevie sings better on SYW (although there were some killer vocals on TISL) and SYW contains some of her best lyrics ever. SYW was produced with a harder rock edge to it, which TISL lacked. TISL was VERY poppy, it didn't rock like SYW does. The guitars, drums, and bass are better on SYW, of course. Plus, you have the harmonies!

It's no contest: SYW!!!!

I guess I'm not especially jazzed about either one of them, but I always prefer hearing the Mac musicians over the session players who populate the typical Stevie Nicks solo album. Her entire solo career -- with an exception or two generally courtesy of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers -- has been dogged by session player blandness & conventionality. She herself has usually had enough star power to cut through all that with her dazzling vocals & persona, but too often has been dragged down by it. In fact, I find the constant tension all these years -- the endless battle -- to have been not between Stevie & Lindsey as lovers but between the session player mentality of Stevie's solo work & the below-the-belt attack of Lindsey's meta-pop.

My favorite moment on TISL is "It's Only Love," which, maybe not so oddly enough, is the most Mac-like in its instrumental approach. Stevie's vocal on that one is a keeper.

My favorite Stevie Nicks solo albums are the first two or three, which were fueled by her fantastic singing & her physical beauty.

I like the songs on SYW better then some of her songs on TISL cause I feel Lindsey got her to expand on her voice and use more of a range. I love her voice and love it when she gets rowdy and high and has more vocal range then a simple same key song. For example I think the title song SYW is a little, how do you say, sort of flat, where in her other songs like Smile at you, she gives it good. You know what I mean?

No question about it _ I prefer Say You Will.
TISL was pleasant enough, and had some of Stevie's best vocals in decades, but for me it didn't have much staying power. I don't really listen to it anymore. On the other hand, I can see myself revisiting Say You Will for years to come.
There's something timeless about the music Lindsey and Stevie make together, whereas Stevie's solo efforts are always very much products of their era. You could date them immediately just by listening to them.

Say You Will is better. I mean, Stevie herself said Fleetwood Mac is always more important. And I believe the band as a whole produces and creates better music than either Lindsey/Stevie on their own. Now i do love their solo stuff, it's great. Especially Out of the Cradle...but I felt that TISL was somewhat weak and it sounded to overproduced to me. Not the best of her albums, but better than OSOTM.

It's that "thread" that goes through all of their stuff.

As "Tango In The Night" & "Out Of The Cradle" had a similar feel to them (with Lindsey's tunes), "Trouble In Shangri-La" & "Say You Will" have that interchangeable feel with Stevie's tunes.

I think "Trouble In Shangri-La" had a "Lindsey production feel" to it (albeit a "cheap imitation")...play "Planets", "Sorcerer", "Smile At You" & the "big" version of "Thrown Down" together...they fit.

But, gimme a Fleetwood Mac album any day over ANY of their solo material.
