Mick Fleetwood Wishes Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham Would ‘Pal Up a Bit More’ (Exclusive)

Mick Fleetwood Wishes Stevie and Lindsay Would Pal Up a Bit More

Mick Fleetwood wishes that his Fleetwood Mac bandmates Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham would put their differences aside.

“I always have a fantasy that [Stevie] and Lindsay would pal up a bit more and just say everything’s OK for them both,” Fleetwood, 77, exclusively told Us Weekly while attending the Janie’s Fund Grammys viewing party on Sunday, February 2. “But we’ve had such an incredible career.”

Nicks, 76, and Buckingham, 75, have had their fair share of ups and downs as members of Fleetwood Mac, which also included Fleetwood, Christine McVie and John McVie. Nicks and Buckingham dated and ended their romance as the band recorded their hit album Rumours, in 1976. Despite finding success together as musicians, Nicks ultimately left the group in 1990.

While Nicks ultimately went her own way, she remained close friends with Christine until the pianist’s death at age 79 in November 2022. Nicks later shared that without Christine, there was “no path forward” for Fleetwood Mac.

Mick Fleetwood Wants Healing Between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham

Fleetwood, for his part, agrees that Nicks’ sentiment is “sadly” true.

“With losing Chris, it was beyond not expected. So that was a different version of it,” he told Us. “And for me, just Stevie or Lindsay or had it being Chris, they could really function on their own. It’s tough doing that, and you’re banging a drum on your own.”

Before losing Christine, Fleetwood was hopeful to get the band back together to do something special. Since that opportunity is not likely coming up any time soon, the musician has now “struggled” to find what’s next — but he’s open to collaborating with another group.

“I miss playing as much as we used to. I’m hoping next year, one way or another, some band somewhere will say, come and play with drums or something,” he told Us on Sunday. “So I always love to do whatever I can do working on an album that next year we may tour with it. I don’t know, [but] not Fleetwood Mac.”

This isn’t the first time Fleetwood has shared his desire to see Nicks and Buckingham repair their relationship. In July 2024, he weighed in on the exes’ long-standing tension.

“It’s no secret, it’s no tittle-tattle that there is a brick wall there emotionally,” he said in an interview with MOJO at the time. “Stevie’s able to speak clearly about how she feels and doesn’t feel, as does Lindsey. But I’ll say, personally, I would love to see a healing between them — and that doesn’t have to take the shape of a tour, necessarily.”

Despite Fleetwood’s public wishings, Nicks has been candid about why she doesn’t see herself working with Buckingham ever again.

“Even if I thought I could work with Lindsey again, he’s had some health problems,” Nicks said in a June 2024 interview with MOJO, referencing Buckingham’s 2019 open heart surgery. “It’s not for me to say, but I’m not sure if Lindsey could do the kind of touring that Fleetwood Mac does, where you go out for a year and half. It’s so demanding.”

These comments by Mick would tick me off if I were Stevie’s team. Do we even know if Stevie communicates with Mick anymore? I thought he was supposed to see her last summer in London’s Hyde Park.

Well considering she holds grudges with touring musicians who dare to attempt working with her AND Lindsey, I'm betting there is a certain amount of bitterness that her favorite lap dog named Mick hasn't joined her iron clad pact against Lindsey. She's really all about scorched earth these days...but not her house, her house saved the entire street. She should ask Billy Crystal how that worked out for him, who lives on the same street.

They’re certainly beyond the “pal” and possibly beyond the pale.

Thanks, everyone. I do two sets a night.

Seriously, the reporting is spotty. If I was unaware of FM’s various reunions, I would think Stevie left in 1990 and never came back. Moreover, I didn’t see anything about Lindsey’s leaving in 87, or his firing in 2018.

The only thing they need to "pal" up on is a modern release of the Buckingham Nicks album.
