Brown Eyes

Was listening with car audio and noticed Lindsey's vocals throughout this track (panned to the left).

I always thought of Brown Eyes as a 100% Chris vocal, perhaps with some harmonies from the others on the chorus (but even then mostly layers of Chris).

But I think Lindsey is there all throughout the verses, doing those soft and sibilant background vocals that particularly become prominent later on in Tango and Say You Will. It's not a harmony -- it's the same melody notes as the lead vocal, just augmenting it in a way that's almost indistuingushable from the lead singer unless you're very familiar with how each of them sound.

Exhibit A for the jury:
The biggest give-away is at the line "What do you want to say." You can detect Lindsey's falsetto wavering/breaking. He does a great impression of the girls but even his falsetto has its limits.


Or is this already covered (or disproved) in Ken's book?
I haven't read it.

I always heard Lindsey vocals on the verses of Brown Eyes. Depending on the system I was listening to the song determined how much I heard his voice. On the 5.1 DVD audio version Lindsey’s voice is even more prominent.

Yes, it was one of the discs on the TUSK box set.

One more way she positioned herself as a team player, to her own effacement. The original version of Brown Eyes (Yesterday’s Tears) features a stunning Christine vocal, along with some killer Green guitar. But as much as I am grateful for that version on the Deluxe, the final version, with far less words, a more pronounced sexiness, and hush vocals on the verses, does work wonderfully. The song is one serious mood. Lindsey’s choices on it help that mood…

But that was Christine, always welcoming others into her songs without losing the potency of her own humble presence. Think About Me and Honey Hi work so well because of the group participation they invite.

Was Yesterday’s Tears the original name of the song? Or was the original/different song that became later in Brown Eyes? At the Deluxe Tusk I don't find Yesterday's Tears, only Brown Eyes (with Lindsey & Peter Green) [9/20/78 Version].

Yes. Describing Brown Eyes as mood hits it on the nail. Its so much deeper than a typical romantic song Chris may sing or write. The mood and hush vocals are so sultry.
Chris obviously was so proud of the song that during post Tusk tours it was her Tusk contribution to the live set for Mirage and Tango. When I first bought Tusk it was immediately my favorite song on the album.
Chris stated it was about Dennis however he did not have Brown Eyes. She took the brown eyes inspiration from one of her dogs that had Brown Eyes. Brown Eyes are so dark, mysterious and can be quite romantic so IMHO the color works so much better instead of Blue Eyes or Green Eyes. The dark color brown just fits the music better. But that is my subjective opinion.

Ah. I got the 2004 expanded remaster back in the day so I skipped that one.

Yes, I got that set also. I will say though I love all the box sets that have been released. I’m still hoping for a “Dance” and maybe even a “Say You Will” box set with some of the unreleased tracks.
