Both bands have had multi million album sales, played infront of thousands, Have a continued massive fan Base, Both experienced the tensions and band breakups and changes within. Both have been an inspiration to a generation in their own ways.
Whos the winner in this battle. What do the facts and figures suggest to finally settle the question. Who had the biggest & best hits?, Who appealed to most people? Who had most sales? Who played to the biggest Crowd? Who has the most talent? This has been a long standing drunken debate between me and my Oasis loving friend, it in now time to settle this once and for all. He will be producing evidence to me from hi Oasis forum so I want to hit him hard with a broad range of opions from the people on this side. Thanks

Surely there's no contest here? The tensions in Oasis, as much as I love their first album (and only that one) come from two childish brothers who couldn't keep it together enough to avoid looking like complete fools in public and then falling apart when one of them had one strop too many. Fleetwood Mac... well, it's quite a bit different! ![]() I think Oasis probably have played to the biggest single crowd (Knebworth?) but in terms of sales Fleetwood Mac must have it thanks to Rumours alone if nothing else...

Fleewood Mac played at Steve Wozniak’s US Festival in 1983 infront of 670,000 people.
Kenbworth was 165,000 for the Oasis concert. No Contest there, I already remember having that argument out with him. Keep it coming.,,

You mean something other than Oasis just plain sucks?
A high percentage of their fan base are UK stoners. (and I don't mean "University Of Kentucky") Fleetwood Mac's appeal is global and crosses a large age & economic demographic cross-section.

They're 2 very different bands with different appeal. I don't particularly like Oasis but they’re popularity was undeniable, in the UK at least (I’m not sure how popular they were internationally). I’d say Fleetwood Mac have a more diverse, cross-generational appeal. I know people who have quite strong opinions towards Oasis (either love them or hate them) and they seemed to characterise a specific generation (90’s Britpop to be exact). I’d say most of the people I now like FM at least a little bit whether they realise it or not - I’ll quite often play a Mac song and be told ‘Oh I like this song, I never knew this was Fleetwood Mac’.
On another somewhat unrelated (but arguably related) note, Noel Gallagher’s new solo project is entitled ‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’, the title of which was inspired by ‘Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac’. He was a fan of the Peter Green era of FM. |

I'd say a higher percentage are chavs.
Even the mention of Oasis or hearing a song of theirs conjures up images of council houses, cheap lager and tracksuits. It's just down to personal taste. People listen to and like what they want to. I personally dislike Oasis and have done since they came out. I never did get into that Britpop thing in the '90s. |

Fleetwood Mac had two arguing couples whereas Oasis had one set of arguing brothers. FM win!
At least Oasis support the correct football team Gail |

I have absolutely no numbers to back up what I'm going to say, so feel free to take it with a grain of salt.
Based on the number of albums produced under the band name of Fleetwood Mac, and the combined record sales of all said albums, I would have to guess there is absolutely not contest here in anyway whatsoever. Based on the evidence previously presented by our friend "Madness Fades", that argument is over also. From my perspective then, there is no debate to be had. Discussion over.
