Fleetwood Mac: Director's Cut

There are many ways to imagine Fleetwood Mac doing a Director's Cut a la Kate Bush's latest art-rock experiment: http://www.retroblog.net/2011/04/07/...cut-tracklist/

However, I propose these game rules:

Imagine that Fleetwood Mac were to release a "Director's Cut" album made by Fleetwood Mac's current line-up in which they re-imagine and re-record SOLO tracks by its lead singer/songwriters Stevie and Lindsey.

What 12 tracks (6 stevie/6 lindsey) would YOU choose?



ETA: IF this were to be done in real life, I'd actually challenge Lindsey and Stevie to choose the 6 tracks to be done by the other. or I'd ask them to consult THE LEDGE.

I love this idea, but I can't think of any solo songs I'd want them to redo...

Not Solo, but, the only song I'd love them to remake is When I See You Again and Welcome To The Room... Sara, with a bit of editing and better production, they could have been brilliant songs. (Although, I am partial to WISYA in it's current form)

Although, I always thought I could hear Stevie on Lindsey's I Am Waiting, so that would be a cool one for them to redo with Fleetwood Mac.

It would kick ass for Stevie and Lindsey to sing I Will Run To You, as well. But I just love that song anyway.

Eek I'm not thrilled with Kate Bush's Director's Cut, and she's my favorite singer (solo artist). I don't know if I even want to THINK about FM doing that. Hmm.

I resurrect this game but imagining it's 2014 in a paralell universe where the band wants to release an album based on this concept. The rule is obviously changed, what 12 tracks (4 per songwriter) would you choose. I chose trying to avoid well known hits, but it's not a necessary rule:

While I love the concept of bands re-approaching old material, I have often found these efforts to be inferior to the original recordings. Director's Cut is my least favorite Kate Bush album for that very reason. She picked songs that were already terrific (plus "Rubberband Girl") and either hardly changed them or outright removed the best aspects of the recording. Other artists have done similar concepts, but these albums were similarly disappointing. Paul Simon's In the Blue Light falls flat despite some inspired song selections, while Sting and Peter Gabriel re-recorded some of their songs with an orchestra; the results were varied.

With both Buckingham and Nicks well past their prime, I think the ship has sailed for them to do anything like this, but I will still compile a list nonetheless. Rather than pick solo songs, I am instead only discussing Fleetwood Mac songs. These picks are assuming that the album was recorded in the mid-2000s, when all three principal songwriters could still sing relatively well.

My selections will mirror a "second chance" concept, meaning songs that could receive improvements with a better instrumental arrangement and vocal delivery. There will be a lot of selections from Tango in the Night as I believe that they could benefit from more organic production. I will also select some songs from Behind the Mask and Time just to humor the idea of Buckingham creatively approaching these compositions. Some Say You Will tracks will also be included to provide McVie the opportunity to provide vocal harmonies

I considered including some tracks from the White album, but decided against it due to the fact that I can only envision a few of those songs benefiting from modern production. I selected "Prove Your Love" as McVie had previously expressed interest in re-recording it.

The idea of reworking a Buckingham song from the Tusk album intruiged me. According to the Get Tusked book by Ken Caillat and Hernan Rojas, most of Buckingham's songs on that album did not feature any other band members. "Save Me a Place" was one of those compositions where Buckingham played all of the instruments, so I could envision Christine McVie adding some Hammond B3 organ and piano, John McVie playing a more active bass part similar to what was found on the Tusk documentary, and some more conventional backing vocals from Stevie and Christine.

I actually plan on creating a Wikipedia article for "Save Me a Place". During my preliminary searches for suitable references, I came across that review. That specific article will not be used as it only provides anecdotal experiences with the song and provides no details related to the recording process. I should still have sufficient information to create a relatively decent article, so I'll keep you posted once I have it ready.
