Default The strongest friendship

This will be just speculation, unless somebody shows an article that explicitly mentions this.

What friendship do you think is stronger: Stevie and John, or Lindsey and Christine ?

(maybe the answer depends on the year, who knows!)

She said that in a Goldmine Magazine interview in 1992.

I'd go with Chris & Mick or Chris & John as being the closest male/female friendship in Fleetwood Mac. She has described both John & Mick as being like brothers to her. I think Stevie & John are friends, but not as close as the other two friendships.

Yup, MA's right (as usual!) Here's the exact quote, if anyone's interested.

Goldmine: How did you enjoy working with Lindsey [Buckingham]? Was there a special bond there?

Christine McVie: I don’t think so as people. As musicians, yes, I think that he respected me as a musician, and I certainly respected him as a musician. We weren’t close friends. You couldn’t say that. I mean, Lindsey’s not really close friends with anybody.

I think you´re right - as usual!
Btw, didn´t John say in his Q&A that he and Stevie were friends, but not as close as him and Chris or him and Mick?

Yes, I think he did. By the way, on one of those video clips on her website, Chris mentioned that she felt the closest to Mick & John.

As soon as I saw the title of the thread I thought Chris, Mick and John. But between those groups I would say Stevie and John even though Stevie and Mick would have been a better choice.

This may actually become a discussion that gets at the heart of all the weird little factions of Fleetwood Mac fans...

Mick and the McVies, to me, are more like siblings than bandmates. A few others have been able to hang out with them, but nobody, not even Stevie, has really been able integrate into that particular bond. Friends come and go, and sometimes come back again. These three have always been there for each other. Even though Christine has retired, she is still obviously regarded by Mick and John as still being a part of that particular entity. It was Christine's instinct to offer to help the band on SYW, and probably Mick's to say yes, though he had to work within band/label politics.

But, John and Chris were married, and the three of them lived together in the same house for nearly four years. They were all stars of the British Blues boom, went through countless guitar players, and took a huge risk together that paid off dearly. They litterally grew up, got rich, and grew old together.

I think Bob Welch was very much a part of their family (in their minds), but he broke that bond when he quit. He became just a friend. When Stevie and Lindsey joined, there were many more people in the background. Thus, the intimacy of Fleetwood/McVies and Buckingham Nicks was never, and really could never, be what it was amongst themselves. In the case of Stevie, she perhaps came the closest, with Billy coming in a close second, to becoming as close to that bond as anybody could. Their relationship with Lindsey was mostly just a professional, business relationship (and a damn good one).

I agree with you a 100%, couldn´t have said it better myself.

Great post, Steve. I think that bond will always be strongest for the Brit faction of the Rumours lineup Mac. So many years, thick & thin, all that.

As far as current friendships - hanging out together, spending time with one anothers' families, I'd guess Stevie & Mick. Don't they go to Hawaii together (not like that!) relatively frequently? And did I hear Stevie is Godmother to at least 1 of the twins, or did I imagine that?
