Fritz Poster

First no I don't have the origional.
But I was flipping through a book I bought for my dad caled "The Art of the Fillmore" and on one of the posters was the band name Fritz circa 1970. It's on page 193, no pic of the band tho. They shared the bill with Chicago. Just thought it was kinda neat since I had no idea Fritz played the Fillmore West. I am of course assuming there was only one Fritz in 1970

I have the original. Its is blue with a skeleton on it. It also came in a postcard size. (it came as a dual postcard with one on on side and a different non fritz show on the other. Only fritz poster I am aware of. Stevie had mentioned opening in Filmore around that time. It's too big for my scanner, so I will put up just the postcard which is a tiny version of the poster. The second is the two postcards still together (harder to find)
The postcards were used as the mailer for announcing shows. The third scan is the back.

, those posters are difficult to find, my Dad has few origional posters, mostly the Family Dog (promoter of the time) kind.

Yep, I can attest to its authenticity. Its incredible that this Fritz memorabilia pops up now! Been a long time since I've seen that poster. Sure would be nice if we could get our hands on the recording that was made of our performance! That would be quite a memorable item.
The other group ahead of us was Family (Great Britain) but we smoked them! I'd mentioned on the Penguin Q&A that Fritz played four nights at the Fillmore (March 26-29, 1970); this was definitely one of our high spots.
I remember one night after we'd finished the set (@Winterland) and as Linds, Stevie and I were coming off the stage, we ran into drummer Danny Serafin of Chicago who chimed, "Nice set," and told us he expected to hear more from the group. That was a real boost! It gave us renewed self-confidence as a professional band. Playing the Fillmore is like a rite of passage for any group.
Our manager at the time was working for Graham's Maillard Agency and had kept from us the fact that Bill Graham was expressing interest in the group. Our trusty manager put him off, telling Graham we were already signed to professional management. Thereafter, he (who was moving to CMA in the Southland) got us signed to his cronies at Associated Talent Management in Los Angeles by threatening to abandon the group if we didn't go along. He lied to us that this was our "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity! Had we known about Graham's offer, ...well, that's another story.

Hey, so many incredible things have happened to S&L, it would certainly make for a great movie, if somebody out there were to write the screenplay, . . .

Doesn't anyone else think Jessica Simpson favors Stevie? I can just see her belting out a good "Sisters of the Moon" as we speak.

Anyway, I don't think anyone Hollywood picks will justify the fans' expectations.

I have the postcard and poster of this show...it is listed as "BG", or "F" 225, even tho the graphic looks like 224. I have had this for so many years and thought the band was "Family Fritz" rather than than two bands, one "Family" and the other "Fritz". Amazing!!!...Thx a ton for the clarification, Mr. Pacheco. I was sitting on this for so ling and never knew it. I thought mabye it was a similar confusion I was having to a band called "Mother Earth". Could this be the same as "The Mother Earth Bluesband" later called "Earth" who became Black Sabbath? It's all too much!
Oddly enough, my postcard also has the printing on the back...did u get yours from a remarkable fellow named Johnathan Burns some time back, pray tell? It seems his coppies had this extra stuff on the back.

On that note, I also have a Fritz handbill featuring The Moody Blues, Norman Greenbaum, and Fritz....after some research, i think the show may have been march 5th, 1970.

The postcard was part of a two part one they sent out. On half had the "postal" part on it, the other had the schedule of events coming up. I think most were cut apart. (see fritz2.jpg above) the schedule was behind the blue fritz one. The Fritz Blue skelly is usually labeled as BG225 (I think it referrs to Bill Grahm at the Fillmore west posters) The other attached is from BF226.

I am not familar with Johnathan Burns. Does he sell from a website or ebay?

Can you post a scan of that handbill? Inquiring minds want to see!

Yup...I will post the Moody Blues one as soon as i figure out how...i am not intimidated, i can prolly work it out. As far as the tickets go, I still kick myself for not investing in them with Micheal VanDyke from the pasychedellic shop way back. the only time i saw any of those was from an interesting cat named Kazamir, who worked in BG's printshop. He even has an embroidered pillow given to the late BG by FM mapping out their Asian/Australian tour.

Johnathan burns has been out of the poster biz for some time. He had an outfit called height st. graphics around 15 years ago. altho my copy may have come from the late/great Ben Freidman's Postermat.....not sure anymore

OOOH, How cool. Yeah, there are a number of things I have had to pass on over the years for a lack of cash. I kick myself now, but no cash = no cash.
woulda-coulda-shoulda. I am still happy with many things I did pick up. (Oh I know, should have picked up extras.......). The prices of what things go on Ebay at times is just mindboggling to me. Each their own, if it is worth it to you and you got the cash....go for it!

I still enjoy the hunt, every so often I come across a nice piece or one I haven't seen before. Ebay mispellings are fun to to find things inexpensive. Steevie Nicks has been good to me at times. hehe.

ok...here we go...it didn't scan very well. kinda fuzzy and the color didn't come out. mabye a preferance thing or something. I tries to sharpen it up a bit, but it made it worse. The original isn't exactly the crispest printing, but what the heck....it's not a super high budget outfit i guess....anyway, here is my first attempt......

i am borrowing a buddy's dig. camera in a few minutes, it may photograph better than it scans...lesseee...can't wait to see how the contraption works.....hang in there.....i will be back in a few shakes (not of the rattlesnake variety)
