Default Ticketmaster to Scalp tix

Check out this BS... We need to all get together on this one. Lets get a petition going and see if we can make them think twice.

(CBS) Waiting in line won't help you.

Keeping an ear to the ground, checking out Web sites and other news about your favorite musicians might still be of some use.

But in the end, for many concerts, it may soon be true that only cold cash - and plenty of it - will get you the hot tickets you are seeking.

According to the New York Times, Ticketmaster plans later this year to begin auctioning off the best concert seats to the highest online bidders.

The paper says there would be no limit on how high prices could go - it would be simply a matter of how much people were willing to pay.

There is no indication at this point on whether Ticketmaster plans to have any rules to keep ticket brokers or scalpers out of the auction, or would allow all comers - individuals and businesses - to compete on the same basis.

"The band's biggest fans ought to have the best seats, not the band's richest fans," Tim Todd, 47, a Phish fan in Kansas City, told the Times.

An industry analyst is quoted as saying that prime seats at the hottest concerts are "undervalued in the marketplace" and auctions are likely to push prices up as a whole.

Tickets have long been resold in auction settings - particularly on eBay, which does a heavy volume in tickets of all kinds.

But in many states, the resale of concert tickets is subject to strict rules meant to protect consumers and give the small scale fan a chance to buy tickets for their favorite event.

Ticketmaster's plan, by contrast, involves the first time sale of tickets and does not appear to be subject to anti-scalper rules.

"The tickets are worth what they're worth," said Ticketmaster CEO and president John Pleasants, in an interview with the Times. "If somebody wants to charge $50 for a ticket, but it's actually worth $1,000 on eBay, the ticket's worth $1,000. I think more and more, our clients - the promoters, the clients in the buildings and the bands themselves - are saying to themselves 'Maybe that money should be coming to me instead of Bob the Broker.' "

Ticketmaster is scum!
Anybody want to join me in hunting down & filming this CEO in true "Roger and Me" style?
I'm drivin'!

How is this any different than what they're doing now?

Does anyone really believe currently scalped front row seats aren't already done in collusion with ticketbastard and ticketbastard employees?

Now they're trying to make it legit?
Probably because there's a lot of snooping around by the authorities who are supposed to enforce the laws about this stuff.

What happened to anti-trust laws? Ticketbastard runs a monopoly on these seats and they think they can sell to the highest bidder without regulation?

Let's see how far this goes before lawsuits start happening.

Word to the wise: heed gldstwmn's warning. Might not be a good idea to give out your personal info on "Pix's" petition.

Christ you're paranoid. Start your own friggn petition. I didn't even start one. Gimme a break I could give a **** who you are. If I wanted to know I already would.

I'm just trying to give (others) a heads up on this… but I must have some kind of motive… If I didn't want you to know who I was I never would have signed my other name at the bottom of posts.

I knew you would come after me, but I don't give a **** about that either... I'm not posting here for you bitter people that seem to think I'm some sort of evil person. Oh be careful... what he could get your name and....??? Just what the hell would I want with it? Gimme a break... move on.

I will continue to come over and post for those that I think would like to know... For those of you that don't like me fine. I don't like you either.

You assume that I have started a petition, which I have not. There was already a conspiracy and nothing has even been done. You come up with the craziest **** like someone attacked your computers for bitching at Micks… Utter and complete BS. You come up with BS like I was flown here or got front row seats there. Again, you are completely wrong. I could show where I paid for every front row, which I won’t, but even if I did you would scream that I was reimbursed. I suppose they gave me the tickets that I gave away out of my own pocket too?

I'm not going to read your response to this because I know your just going to come up with more unfounded BS. If I think there is something the rest of the board needs to know about I will post. I will not however, read anymore of you paranoid fantasy.

Oh, I see.
Did you start a petition?
Do you like us either?

BTW, thanks for summing up the motto of the unmotivated student: "If I wanted to know I already would." That's a keeper.

1) Good to know the feeling is mutual

2) I feel fans look out for one another here WITHOUT your involvement. If there is a true uprising, I would definetly hear about it via my other favorite band, the String Cheese Incident, who by the way is SUING Ticketmaster right now - so I would of course post it over here if they are going to do something about it. I have NO desire to list my personal information on some website. Funny how in the other thread you said you wernt coming back... but like a bad dream you keep popping up.

3) Although my computer was not abducted by an Alien or Mick Fleetwood, YOU DID BAN ME FOR MY ONE AND ONLY POST OVER ON ***YOUR BOARD*** WHERE I WAS POINTING OUT YOU WERE BREAKING YOUR OWN RULES. Kiss my *ss Trinity, that was a bloody lie you told.

4) YOUR A COWARD. GO AND RUN AND HIDE TO DADDY MICK.

post script ~ its a travesty we cant BAN YOU!

How about the Justice Department? They went after Bill Gates, Clear Channel and a whole list of others. Ticketmaster's turn will inevitably come. Like gypsysara said, the bands have already started suing them.

I do agree that Ticketb*stard & Clear Channel are monopolistic companies...

http://www.stringcheeseincident.com/news.tm.full.htm

Link to my barefoot boys' website and their speil on the whole lawsuit issue.

"SCI Ticketing filed the lawsuit claiming that ticketing giant Ticketmaster has monopolized the ticketing industry, using its immense market power to prevent competition for the sale of concert tickets. SCI Ticketing is the first artist-centered ticketing company to sue Ticketmaster in federal court."

I don't wish to step on Vianna's toes here, but I just want to remind everyone that personal attacks are not acceptable on these boards.

If you have a personal feud with someone, work it out elsewhere.
If you don't like someone and don't care to read what they have to say, use the ignore function here on The Ledge.

Thank you.

How could anyone work it out elsewhere with this person when they have an unfair advantage and can come here and stir the pot whenever they like knowing that most people can't go where they are? This person knows it and is taking full advantage of the hospitality here on this site when people were thrown off of their site for saying far less than they have said here.

I think PIX would have to hit the ignore function for most of the people on this site if they wanted to ignore the people who have a problem with them.

PIX seems all worked up about this "BS" but didn't do a thing to help the members of this community when they were hurt and cheated by Jonathan Todd's "BS". PIX didn't see the need to help the community then, but they can't understand why their motives of help are constantly being questioned now.

FAR TOO LITTLE FAR TOO LATE by someone who had a hand in supporting so much "BS" that this community was hurt by.

PIX was front and center when people were being hurt left and right by his own actions and those of his boss and did not lift a fiinger to come over here then to help the members who could not reach the club and were banned from Mick's site.

His last post here

"If you would like to meet and discuss it sometime it can be arranged"

was a clear threat in the context of the thread and the statements being made.

PIX has access to the SUPPOSED 3300 members of Mick's site so why does he need the support of the people here? SURELY, they ALL can't be scalpers. Even if most or many of them are scalpers I would think they'd be thrilled to have PIX and the support of the FLEETWOOD MAC FANCLUB in helping to keep them in business. Scalpers need a leader, maybe PIX is it! And now that Jonathan (come lately) Todd is HOPPING MAD over the scalpers taking seats away from innocent fans, he might want to put all of his resources behind helping the fans again. He's been such a support to this community that I'm sure he would help PIX in this new effort.

I think the members of this community were told to MOVE ON enough at Mick's site by the caring devoted members there, do we really need PIX coming over here telling us to MOVE ON, again?

I see that the LOVELY caring members of PIX's community who told us off every chance they got to MOVE ONE, STOP COMPLAINING, YOU'RE RUINING OUR FUN, GET OVER IT are now the victims of bad seats bought through their great fanclub and are missing the opportunity to buy better seats as they come available. It's just a crying shame that people had to be hurt by so much "BS" and PIX stood at the edge of the ditch shoveling the "BS" allover this community. Maybe PIX can offer to stop that "BS" and go help some of them.

BTW, that second post PIX made in this thread seemed like it lacked CIVILITY. I believe PIX was really hung up about the "LACK OF CIVILITY" by the people he threw out of Mick's site, and now here he comes.......

Good to know that we are on the same page. Thing is that you fixed it where we can't post on Micks site. You used all that power huh? Hows it make you feel to come over here, to our world, and know that you aren't wanted?

What I recommend is that NO ONE post to anything that he has to say. Maybe he will slink back to the dark side.

I don't know where you came from before you put on that admin cap, but, you better have paid the rent there. You will be back there soon.

This is your forum, and we've always wanted people to have the opportunity to speak their minds here.
But we do have some guidelines and rules, and personal attacks are against those rules.

Mind you, I'm not singling anyone out... my first post was simply a reminder.
