Heart Sisters... so what do we think?

I think this totally deserves it's own thread. Now that we've got an MP3 version of Sisters Of The Moon, what are everyone's initial impressions?

When the song first started it gave me the chills, I think her older voice actually totally works for it. I was somewhat disappointed when she skipped to a lower key for the chorus, but that was very much expected. I think the song more or less sounds exactly the way it should: it's dark, spooky, and still rocks. I think it might actually be better than I thought it would be.

Now for my big disappointments: I really hoped Lindsey would share a verse like in the old days. Something about his singing a verse really drove the song home in my opinion. The only other thing I wish they'd tweak is that the song really needs a stand alone guitar solo. I think the loss of both of these elements makes the song seem a bit anticlimactic. It just seems rushed. Sharon & Lori are a bit too understated, too... I love the backing vocals I can hear, though!

Those nitpicky things aside, I totally understand how this song would be more than a bit intimidating for Stevie, however. It is the song her fans obsess over most. It's her most iconic live song of all time. It's utterly representative of her out of control cocaine use. I'm shocked Stevie agreed to ever perform it again. Which is more than likely why she's rushing through the performance. Still, I'm so glad it's in the setlist, and I hope it stays.

EDIT: here's the download link for those who didn't see it in the opening night thread- http://www.mediafire.com/?l468045hdcaept1#!

I honestly don't care if it'd been acoustic. The fact that it's back in the set is enough to make me thank the Mac gods for the rest of the summer. I think it sounds a lot better than I was honestly expecting....

I thought it sounded great. I agree in that I was a little surprised in how short it was. But I really hope it stays in the setlist and I can't wait to hopefully hear it in a few months.

Everyone seems to be really worried about Sisters being dropped. I really don't think that's going to happen. The audience seemed to really react to it first of all. But more than anything, this is the lone 'new' song on this tour for Stevie... she really can't drop it. She brought out Beautiful Child for the Say You Will tour (and later added Sara). Unleashed brought us Storms. Sisters is this tour's unexpected mothballed oldie. Otherwise, Stevie's just relying on the old hits, which is what she's repeatedly said this tour is not about.

Well, she also has Without You. Which I also hope stays in the set. I'm just paranoid one of those will be dropped, but fortunately I can't really think of anything they would be replaced with.

"....the PEOPLE ... they love her ~
but still THEY"RE the MOST CRUEL..."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

she deserved a standing ovation for this song !!!! (but instead - many have criticized....) imagine the anxiety of performing your MOST iconic LIVE PERFORMANCE (besides 70's rhiannon) ~ and revered song....21 years after you LAST performed it.....KNOWING how high the "bar" was set ???? (in her mind and in the fans minds) without any "help".......
i have new found respect for her....it was a BOLD & GENEROUS move....i think it was a special GIFT from HER to US (like storms, sara, BC & SS were before....)...KNOWING how much we've longed to hear it ~ and how LOOOOONNNNGGG we've waited.........

and the "waiting" just made us want "it" more....

we all need to be thankful they're still "out there"-doing what they do...cuz none of them "have to"...and we need to appreciate them for "where they are" at THIS POINT/TIME in their lives....

STILL amazing ~ after ALL THESE YEARS

"long may she reign...."

It's almost as if Lindsey is too afraid/respectful of Stevie to no longer rock out on guitar in her songs. Rhiannon, Sisters and Gypsy were once songs where he just went mental onstage, trying to upstage her I suppose. It worked, gave the band an edge on stage that has been missing ever since. Obviously they're still a good live band, but things just sound a tad too polished nowadays.

Again I ask "Are You Karen?" or any other rep of the band? (please see my response in Columbus thread) If you don't respond, I will assume that you are a rep for the band.

Needless to say, Most of the responses here and in general (IMO) of Sisters and the New Material are positive. But, maybe I have been accustomed to the "negative reaction" to a BAND I LOVE! So, she tried this out...blah...Lindsey said this...blah blah blah.

What I'm getting at is sometimes Stevie should heed her own advice and NOT "Listen to the voices...and ignore Our own voice". People will talk regardless, whether it's good publicity or not.

I'd say 90% of the fans that POST here are fanatics and LOVE the fact that Ms. Nicks was ever so brave to tackle Sisters again. She did a Great job!

I'd be ever So Sad to NOT hear Sisters again at Jazz Fest. Please don't mislead our Ms. Nicks into not performing it again, ever. For most of us, She IS our icon and really in the long-run can do no wrong.

You don't want to break all of our hearts that are counting on hearing Sisters this year?, do you Karen?

I liked it overall, much better than I thought I would. I didn't care for Stevie's repetition of "Sisters" in places I had never heard before, but Great vocal and solid tune, no doubt.

I fear that this, along with some of the "other" newer songs didn't get the recognition they deserved. I was around a bunch of casuals....I could be wrong about the floor, though.

Thought about Lori and Sharon...they seemed to disappear alot during the set. I'm So Afraid and the acoustic set are the obvious songs, here.

I thought they handled the song well but it could use a guitar solo and a bit more of a dramatic ending, but overall Stevie adapted it well to her present day vocal. It truly is a gem of a song and could easily replace Rhiannon. Wouldn't it be wonderful with a slow piano beginning with Stevie singing in a soft voice?
