What is your favourite Mick Fleetwood solo album?

Ok so Mick Fleetwood doesn't get a lot of recognition for his solo work despite the obvious talent that the albums contain. Mick does have a great knack of bringing together talented musicians, something that he has demonstrated in that other band called Fleetwood Mac.

Sure the MFBB is perhaps the best known of Mick's bands and I'll almost put money on it getting the most votes, but hopefully some of the old albums get a few votes too! Oh yes and I know that officially The Zoo and MFBB are bands and not solo albums but humour me here...

Personally I find this quite a hard question to answer (stupid of me to ask the question then isn't it?) but I'll give my vote to I'm Not Me...

I think I've actually only heard Something Big- I own that one, and it's a nice album!

It is...I was really torn between I'm Not Me, Something Big and Blue Again. It is almost like choosing a favourite child...

I was actually surprised when I first heard Something Big - I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was...

I haven't played it in a VERY VERY long time, but I know I remember Ms. Evans' background vocals were simple and stellar!

No contest for me. The Visitor is gorgeous. I dream that the Mac had joined Mick in Africa for their follow-up to Tusk. It would have changed the trajectory of the band's history and, I believe, music history. All I want in life is "Edge of Seventeen" with an African choir.

What a shock!!! A Mick related thread in the "Rumours" area!!!! I'd almost given up that any discussion on this forum would ever include the "Tall Man".

Anyway, here's my votes, in order of preference:

Blue Again
The Visitor
Something Big
Shakin' The Cage
I'm Not Me

Never heard anything form the Total Drumming stuff.

As a drummer, Mick has to surround himself with other musicians. It's very difficult to just do a drum album. Even Micky Hart from Grateful Dead on his Planet Drum stuff has had to surround himself with other percussionists. So, no surprise that Mick has a slew of other musicians around him when he records. And why shouldn't he go for the best? I'd be shocked to hear of a musician that wouldn't want to work with him.

I will have to say I couldn't put Shakin the Cage down for a long time... Bekka was amazing on that album..

So, I just don't get why there has to be a comparison to Rumours. As Lindsey has said many, many, many times, why make a carbon copy of that album? They did that, now let's do something different. Thus, Tusk.

Why wouldn't Mick want to do albums that are nonRumours sounding? We can all pretty much guess what a Lindsey album is going to sound like, the same with Stevie and Christine as well. With Mick and John, being rhythm players, not singers or "front men", they need bands and singers to work with. We got a very small taste of how John works with other musicians on his "Gotta Band" project and now we've had various versions of what Mick is into with his several projects.

Can't they all just be appreciated for what they are and not compared to Rumours????

I'm actually pretty shocked (and then again not so much owing to the lack of blues love on this forum, no offense, just a fact) that Blue Again hasn't gotten more votes. It's a fantastic CD and a real tribute to the PG/original era of FM that really pours out the love for the music that the MFBB has.

It's a fantastic CD and a real tribute to the PG/original era of FM that really pours out the love for the music that the MFBB has.

chili said "Rumours-era," which means it's the one that sounds most like it could have been made by those 5 people; not necessarily similar Rumours itself.

p.s. -- I'm listening to I'm Not Me right now and chili is uncannily (though not surprisingly) right in his "casting" of the Rumours-era mac members for each song. WOW.

Thanks for this Viv, I was checking this against our discography listings for accuracy and I couldn't find Gilbert Amartey Amar or Edikanfo.

There is a Nii Amartey so assuming this is him, he wrote "O' Niamali" & "Amelle (Come On Show Me Your Heart)" but for the musicians it just says Played & Sung by Adjo Group (i.e. no mention of Edikanfo).

I must admit I know nothing about these groups so if anyone can clarify any of this it'd be most appreciated as I wasn't able to find the names of any of the members of Adjo Group either so...

I'm shocked too...I don't think it is necessarily a reflection on Blue Again...it is just that those old albums have so much to offer (and hey they are original too ). We are a nostalgic bunch!

Very true my friend. Very true. Nostalgia? Yes. But for what? For Mick and his work, or for anything that can be compared to Buckingham/Nicks and Rumours?

I guess I'm just looking for something I'm not going to find in this area of the forum: Love for a tribute to the PG era of FM.

The Visitor is Mick Fleetwood's finest moment within his solo work. With George Harrison and Peter Green adding their magic, not to mention Mick working in Ghana (West Africa) before Paul Simon (South Africa) made it hip.
