In the Meantime Say You Will

I've been trying for quite a while to create the above (virtual) album and I'm still not quite there yet BUT......

Some interesting combinations have occurred:

Have you ever played Peacekeeper followed by Calumny?

And Say Goodbye followed by Givin it Back?

Sublime.

I've got 14 songs and 56.5 minutes (about right for someone like me who has the attention span of a retarded ant) Christine has five songs, Lindsey 5 and Stevie only has four becauseI don't much care for her Say You Will stuff (perhaps I would like the demos better?)

I'm nearly ready to commit to burning a CD

There's no blistering rock & roll on your "album," Gail. Not even a decent lead guitar solo. Your track list is too languid. Snoozeville. Throw in some torching lead guitar songs--it doesn't matter what--just to vary the tone. Nobody likes a complete diet of old-fashioned Adult Contemporary any more. Shake it up, babe, shake it up. Live a little. Be young, be bright, be mad. Throw that window of yours open & yell, "I'm mad as hell & I'm not gonna take this **** no more!!!"

The songs are a personal choice - I wasn't asking or expecting anyone else to like it. (Other than pointing out a couple of IMO good combinations) The reason that there's no guitar solos is because I don't care for lead guitarists rambling on and on with interminable solos (torching or otherwise).

By purposely omitting "Come" and "Murrow," she's completely eliminated any chance of there being anything "rock" on her "virtual album." And, really, how could anything that's fused to "In the Meantime" be anything but your self-described "snoozeville"?

ITM is pleasant in a soothing, insomnia-curing kind of way but isn't something I'd like to listen to on any kind of regular basis.

I purposely omitted Come and Murrow because (IMO) they go on so long I lose the will to live about half way through.

Also I saw them do Come at Earls Court and I found Lindsey's antics embarassing

As much as I like Friend, I don't think it'd work as an opener for an FM album. For ITM, yeah, because it fits in with the dynamic of the album... But not SYW. I think they'd need a Stevie or Lindsey opening song. I could do without Murrow, but the hormonally charged Lindsey fan in me has to have Come. (heh...)

I agree. I think What's The World Coming To is a great opener even if you squeezed ITM tracks into the album. I have done this, but limited Christine to only 4 tracks of my own Say You Will (Alternate) album.

Yeah, I really do like WTWCT as an opener either way. I don't know if I'd put Liar on the album at all. I'm surprised Anything Is Possible wasn't on there! I'd include it. As long as we stay away from Bad Journey, since listening to that *is*.

I like your list, Gail...although I'd replace "Silver Girl" with maybe "Smile At You". I'd still like to put "Forgiveness" somewhere on that CD. Don't worry about those guitar solos. Remember, a certain someone mentioned that there was too much guitar on SYW.

I wish Christine had felt that way back when she did her 1984 album. The artistic problem with that one was that Todd just went on & on with his guitar, & the tracks lost their shape & concision. The solos were all interchangeable, too. You could lift the solo from "I'm the One" & drop it into "One in a Million," or take the "Keeping Secrets" & drop it into "The Challenge," & essentially you'd be left with the same track & the same atmosphere & texture.

The effect was even more pronounced on the tour (as Kristine McKenna -- or was it Connie Johnson -- even noted in her L.A. Times review of the Universal Amp show).

I didn't really mind it on the album, but I would agree about the tour. I loved the show I saw. It's the one and only time I'll ever see her live. But if I could have changed anything about it, I would have reigned in Todd's guitar solos. I'm not a big fan of guitar solos. I love piano solos though. The L.A. Times review wasn't the only one that complained about Todd's solos. The Philadelphia Inquirer reviewer said the same thing, although he liked Christine herself.
