Default Buckingham McVie - 4-star review in Mojo magazine

This is the first review I've seen...

'Lindsey Buckingham & Christine McVie - ****

Fleetwood Mac's new not-quite Fleetwood Mac album

The party line is that Stevie Nicks's solo commitments have forced Fleetwood Mac to put their next album on hold. But as the recent Tango In The Night reissue proved, Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie were often the band's great unsung partnership. Confusingly, this duets album also includes bass guitarist John McVie and drummer Mick Fleetwood, making it essentially Fleetwood Mac minus Nicks.
McVie brings the sing-song pop (Feel About You, Red Sun) and the slightly cloying Game Of Pretend; Buckingham, the whispered vocals and fingernail-splitting guitar solos on Sleeping Around The Corner and Love Is Here To Stay, plus the album's best song: In My World.
Does it miss Stevie Nicks? Yes, just as the last Fleetwood Mac album, 2003's Say You Will, missed Christine McVie. But until all parties can sync their calendars, this will do nicely.

Mark Blake'

Might not please those non-'In My World' fans...

Oh dear, that's probably not what people wanted to hear. Best to set your expectations low

Let's hope he's wrong and maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised.

I agree with all of you, however I'm happy that the first review is both positive and straightforward.

Just what I was afraid of..oh well every band has it's day and Fleetwood Mac sure had theirs.

I like the way the critic called the album what it is- a FM album without Stevie, just like Say You Will was a FM album without Christine. Simple and to the point. And I do wish be had gone into more detail about how the 'duets' sound and whether Christine and Lindsey's harmonies are reminiscent of earlier FM albums.

But yeah, his comment that In My World is the best song on the album does lower my expectations

and.................. drumroll! i agree with bwboy again! what happened??

frankly, if someone thinks that IMW is a great song, then their musical tastes are very different than mine and i can't take their opinion as something that will give me any hints about other songs. and the song we already know, SATC is a much much better song than IMW, so...

I cringed a bit when I read that, too. IMW is OK, but as the lead single, Christine should really be singing on it. Otherwise, it sounds like a Lindsey solo track. This whole project is supposed to be their a-ha moment around their musical chemistry.

I love all of their past collaborations, so I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised too.

I mean this reviewer calls "Family man" one of the best tracks on Tango..so there is hope.

Family Man is a brilliant track if you strip the cheezy lyrics and corny chorus. If you stripped all vocals from every track on Tango, Family Man would be one of the best if not the best track on Tango. IMHO lyrics are not usually Lindsey's strength. Amazing guitar playing on Family Man and I feel bad the song gets trashed because the track musically is really good.

I love everything about it.

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.

I hate the music in Family Man as much as the lyrics, etc. If the critic thought Family Man was the best song on Tango, I'm even more bummed now. On the other hand, music is subjective, so I'm still optimistic...

The music really moves me. I wish they would have extended the guitar. It's sublime.
