After Fleetwood Mac tour: Reissue of 'Buckingham Nicks'?

Fleetwood Mac is headed down the home stretch of its 2013 tour, with only three shows remaining: Wednesday at Staples Center in L.A., Friday in San Diego and Saturday in Sacramento.

But 2013 represents a milestone of another kind for band members Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks: It’s the 40th anniversary of “Buckingham Nicks, ” the only album they put out as a duo before joining up with Fleetwood Mac in 1975.

That album never made the Billboard 200 album chart, but it’s prized among rock fans as an important moment in California rock history and in the story of Fleetwood Mac’s evolution from respected British blues-rock band to a transatlantic runaway success.

“Buckingham Nicks” remains out of print, but there’s momentum building not only for a reissue of the album on CD but also the a possibility of some performances to go with it.

“There has been some talk about finally getting that out on a CD,” Buckingham told Pop & Hiss when we caught up with him last week at a tour stop in Charlotte, N.C. (The full interview with Buckingham will appear Wednesday in Calendar.) “I think it really comes down to what we want to do with that format.

“Do we want to just release it and that’s it? Do we want to add some bonus tracks? What level of involvement do we take it to? There’s a market for just about anything we want to do, but we have not gotten there yet. It’s something we need some clarity on.

“If it were me, I’d say let’s put a couple of bonus tracks on it, and do some dates. That would be something brand new,” Buckingham said. “The idea of just dropping it as a CD doesn’t quite underscores the gesture enough.”

Likewise, Nicks told Rolling Stone before the current Fleetwood Mac tour started that she’d be interested in reuniting the band she and Buckingham had in the early '70s, which included guitarist Waddy Wachtel, drummer Jim Keltner and bassist Jerry Scheff, and doing some shows this year or in 2014.

“These are dialogues we’ve had, but only in the hypothetical, and we have not come to any decisions about what we want to do,” Buckingham said. “And all these things will become clear. It’s all from the bottom up. These things tend to take on a life of their own.”

Just drop the damn cd already. Hemming and hawing at this point is utter silliness.

Yeah bonus tracks would be great but not at the expense of getting the damn thing out. And let's face it, one ounce of complication could cause intolerable delay to something that has already been intolerably delayed.

I don't care what they do with BN as long as there is no tour or no new recordings past 2013 that hold up solo projects. The .mp3 copies I have of the album right now are good enough for me.

I would love, just love, a BN reissue. But I want it done right. 180 gram vinyl and CD remasters. Bonus tracks. And a small tour would be great, but I think it really should be *small*. Smaller venues, smaller shows (just perform the album start to finish), smaller crowds, all acoustic, all fantastic.

I agree with Lindsey that just dropping it as a CD is kind of a non-event since most fans have it anyway. They need to make it an event by at least doing ONE show (and filming it) and putting some bonus tracks on it.

YES! YES! YES! This right here is everything I was immediately thinking. That would all be incredible! I especially want the 180 gram vinyl release (with digital download card or the CD version with it please!). I've never heard the BN album except maybe a song or two on YouTube. I've started collecting vinyl and mostly listen to Mac and the bands solo albums on vinyl lately anyway (except in my car) and I'm wanting to buy an original copy of BN and still will but OMG I'd absolutely drop whatever it costs on the 180 gram vinyl. My local record shop has the 180g Rumours but because I have a really nice copy of original release Rumours on vinyl I'm waiting to buy the 180g (though I'm sure its worth it! I'm just broke and my vinyl collection is still small) But oh gosh I would jump on a vinyl rerelease of Buckingham Nicks! And bonus tracks, definitely. Something sort of like the rerelease anniversary version of Rumours with the demo versions and stuff.

And oh my goodness the small venue concert idea sounds so incredible too. So much fun both for the younger fans like me who weren't even born yet in BN days or even the greatest days of FM and obviously fun for the diehards who have seen Lindsey or Stevie in small venues before. And I know I'm still coasting on a huge high from the current tour so I'd do anything to get a seat at a BN tour for sure! But by small tour they have to come reasonably close enough to me here in Detroit!

We should start a petition or something. Let them know what the biggest fans want. I'm all giddy at the mere idea of this!

Just release the album on CD, AS IS...NOW....then when you finally get your s*** together, release a "Deluxe Edition" with bonus tracks...then after you finally get a live thing finished, release the filmed live portion on DVD & Blu-Ray and then re-release EVERYTHING as the "Super Bonus Deluxe Edition" with a couple of CDs and a DVD. Have you learned NOTHING from the marketing of Rumours over the years???

I think they should do what Tom Petty did with Mudcrutch a few years ago.
He released the great Mudcrutch album, and put the original band back together - which only included Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench from the Heartbreakers.
And then they did some shows.
I was lucky enough to get tickets to one of the 5 shows they did at the Troubadour, and it was amazing.
They played the entire Mudcrutch album but no TP/Heartbreakers songs.

I would love it if Buckingham Nicks did a similar thing -- I don't need to see them in an arena anymore. It would be so refreshing to not have to sit through Don't Stop or Go Your Own Way -- and just see them do something completely different.

This would be amazing! Of course I would buy the remaster, and whatever bonus there might be, but I think seeing those two sing their songs would be a dream come true.

Just release the CD with a bonus with demos and live versions (hopefully previously unheard) and a pretty booklet with unseen photos, do a short tour and I'll be happy.
