I have been listening to some of the Mirage outtakes this week and have to admit that I think that some are better than the released versions. I hope that, if the CD is ever repackaged, we get to hear a whole alternate version of the album.
For me, a few of the tracks are great on Mirage, but too many were over-produced (Book of Love, Empire State, Eyes of the world, Only Over You) or under-produced (Love In Store). These rough mixes seem more "real" and without Lindsey's silly speeded up backing vocals and some heavier guitar sounds, the songs sound much better. And while I am at it... I think Fleetwood Mac are useless at "using" their past catalogue and giving the fans something extra. I can think of countless artists that have released live boxsets and all the rarities they can find. Think of the TITN b-sides that have never been released digitally! The repackaged Mirage, TITN and BTM are well overdue for release, as are the documentaries and live performance recordings. Its lazy and unimaginative marketing!

I think this material is unreleased/unremastered because of Warner Brothers, not because of Fleetwood Mac.

Rumours, Tusk, Mirage, and Tango were recently released on HDtracks.com in high res audio. Not sure if they remastered Mirage and Tango for these releases but they both sound MUCH clearer and more dynamic to me than the CDs. I'm noticing percussion sounds I had not heard before and the background vocals are SO clear. I could never understand all of Stevie's backups in Straight Back but I can hear her loud and clear now!

I think it's more about Warner Bros control than Fleetwood Mac's reluctance to bring their fans session left overs. Maybe they are saving them for another box set or something else. I'm glad that there are these reissues because I have a chance to experience my favourite songs in new remastered forms. That's a lot. New audial nuances bring new flavours to the well known music, letting me experience it as something new. Of course it would be great to see rare documentary, footages or something like that, but even without all these extras I will definately rush to my music shop and buy it.
