The story behind the new songs in LIVE album

does anyone has any info about how those new songs were included in the Live album? I mean not where they played but why they included in LIVE and never in a studio version, like Tusk or Mirage (the albums before and after LIVE). Remember Bleed to Love Her was included live in the Dance and studio version in SYWill.

And is there a studio version of any of these songs? I don't think so, cause they would have been included in the special editions few years ago.. or they will be in the Mirage bonus tracks???

It's weird why there's no a Lindsey new song. He didn't support the live album idea, I guess. they Just included Don't Let Me Down Again from BN

The Farmer's Daughter (a Wilson song, it's a cover of a Wilson or Beach Boys song) Well there is a supposed studio version in the Tusk special edition thought it sounds exactly equal to the LIVE version

Something tells me that Lindsey preffered having his long live masterpieces, instead of making room for a new track. He also wanted to save a new track for his upcoming solo album. Why wouldnt you want to showcase amazing renditions of songs that tend to be overlooked in studio versions? "Not that funny" became a totally different song live, for example, and he wanted to showcase songs like that.

He (and/or Money-man Mick) probably also felt that Stevie and Christine could showcase a new song, to have a possible single.

Stevie herself probably wanted to write about the turmoil and exhaustion of the Tusk tour... she wanted something contemporary. Most of her Rumours songs were done in 1976, and most of her Tusk songs were done in 1977, 78. "Sisters of the moon" was written in 1977. She just wanted to write a new song for the new year which was 1980.

I hope im right. I think im pretty right.

The songs, presumably, were specifically developed for inclusion on the LIVE album because they wanted to give fans something new, simple as that. I don't think they were ever considered to be slated for a studio album.

It's quite a twisted assumption that the lack of a new Lindsey song is evident of him being not in support of the album...citing the possibility of drama where there was likely none. Remember, he ponied up The Farmer's Daughter (not a song he wrote, albeit, but one he chose).

Why aren't there studio versions? What's the point? Fireflies was remixed and released as a single, as was The Farmer's Daughter. These were one-off songs (along with One More Night) especially created for the Live album project. Wouldn't it be slightly redundant if those songs then appeared in their next album, Mirage? (Bleed To Love Her, the exception).

And for what it's worth...those songs aren't truly live. There was a lot of studio work (vocals in particular) done on them after the fact. With that, consider them a hybrid - part live, part studio recorded.

WHAT? I'm sure i have a tusk demo of Fireflies. I think it's a "Gold And Braid" jobbie. A demo that Stevie really liked but felt didn't go with the album and so she played it live.

Do you know this for fact or is that your personal assumption? My personal assumption or point is...regardless of the time frame when the genisis of the song Fireflies was born -- it and One More Night and Farmer's Daughter were likely either written/performed specifically for the live album... or they were sitting in a can in various states of development...and they decided to use them for the Live project.

If Firelies was truly a Tusk outtake, why isn't it on the Tusk bonus disc? I think it's possible that those horrible renderings of Firelies that are out there are of the band working on the song--either during or after the Tusk tour...in prep for the Live album. Just because a song is known to have developed around the time of a particular album doesn't necessarily qualify it as an outtake from that said album.

oh...and please clarify what at "Gold and Braid" jobbie is!?

I have a CD I bought years ago at a fair of Tusk Demo's and Fireflies is on there along with a Mac version of Beauty And The Beast. A "Gold And Braid" jobbie is basically a song that no1 has ever heard before that was never on an album that crops up completely randomly in the tour set but is bloody successful when it's done live. A little like Tori Amos' "Cooling".

I didn't know that. I think they were never played on peruvian radios.

Endulge me with the answers to a couple of questions...

RE: The Farmer's Daughter

1. Did Lindsey sing on the original? Or is it all females (Live Album)?

2. This is done as an encore on the Dance Tour...does anyone have any audio/video of that version?

All three "new" songs included on the Live album were recorded live AFTER the tour at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in front of crew, family & friends. Then "sweetened" in the studio. So, the basic tracks were recorded "live", but there was so many overdubs in the studio, I think we can call them "studio versions" safely.

"Farmer's Daughter" is the only one of the three that was worked on during the recording of the Tusk album.

Yes, Lindsey sings on all versions of "Farmer's Daughter". (it was written by Brian Wilson for the Beach Boys. The original version was on The Beach Boys' third album Surfin' USA)

A bootleg CD of Tusk demos isn't necessarily accurate in documenting that all songs are, IN FACT, Tusk demos. Operative word: "BOOTLEG".
