Ummm.... Bob Brunning ????

OK, so I've read Bob Brunning's book as well as seen the 'Unbroken Chain' DVD and in both Bob says that it was Stevie that Mick originally wanted to join in late 1974 and not Lindsey.

But when Mick talks, he says he wanted Lindsey to join and agreed to take on Stevie as well because of the 'couple' situation.

This issue ever been brought up here??

According to Mick's book, it seems he did see Stevie first, and was taken with her looks. But by all accounts, it was truly Lindsey as a guitarist and singer that Mick and the band were most interested in.

I think Mr. Brunning just has his story a little mixed up.

The obvious needs to be stated:

Fleetwood Mac at that time consisted of drummer, a bass player and keyboard player/singer. It is fact that, indeed, Mick was looking for a guitar player? I can't imagine the logic in thinking "Hey, we have no guitarist, so lets look for a singer!"

Bob got it wrong. Yet, I haven't read the book; maybe he was implying something else?

Mick has told the story a bajillion times that he went to Keith Olsen's studio, looking for a studio, and Keith played Frozen Love to show Mick was the place sounded like. Mick heard Lindsey and was blown away. He called and approached LB and Lindsey said the package deal thing. Mick went to Chris and asked her how she felt about having another lady in the band and Chris said, let me meet her. Isn't that about how it went according to the key players..even Keith? Keith admitted someplace, maybe the Q and A, that he told Mick right away that LB would never leave Stevie so if he wanted HIM he would probably have to take HER.

Stew is right though...I do think Mick said he saw Stevie in the hallway at the studio before he heard FL. I am sure he thought she was smoking.

i certainly didn't buy that book so i can't give the quotes, but mick not only claims to have spotted stevie in the studio, he claims to have heard the beautiful blonde speaking to someone about going to a park to record the sound of birds rising. ok mick, so you are not only claiming to have randomly seen her in the studio, you are now claiming to have been there at the precise moment that the 'birds rising' rhiannon demo was recorded?

iiiii don't know that i believe his account, as many other events in the book come across as pure fantasy. the stevie/studio thing very well may have happened, but the rest IMO was a created memory.

I didn't read Mick's "novel" but I like in the photo history how he describes Fritz as Stevie's Bay area band and Lindsey as just the bass player. Funny, I thought LB was a founding member of Fritz and Stevie was asked to join when the first girl singer and her cousin left for college? I know Javier who took over as leader was also a late comer. A lot of things Mick said in the 80's and early 90's appears to me as reverse tunnel vision. Stevie had the highest public profile then, so Mick naturally focused on her even when his view was a little out of focus. In Rosebud from the 70's he said he heard Lindsey's guitar playing and that's what got him hooked. He never said anything about seeing Stevie first until years later.
