Default F-Mac & Radio March Madness..es

I was listening to our local classic rock station (100.7 the Bay, in the Baltimore, Maryland area) and noticed they had a 'battle of the bands' March-madness-style tournament, with listeners calling in to select winners.

Fleetwood Mac took out Emerson Lake & Palmer in the first round. But in the 2nd, they met up with Jimi Hendrix and couldn't land the sweet sixteen.

Is anyone else following these tourneys if they're going on in your own markets? (a lotta stations do them) I'm curious how the Mac is holding up and if they're making any Final 4's (before the Stones, Pink Floyd and Eagles take over the damn thing).

I think doing these is the greatest most creative ideas ever. Fleetwood Mac was an eight seed and beat Jethro Tull a nine seed. Now in the second round they play The Beatles a number one. And the #1's and #8 or 9 matchups are TODAY. And there's no rule that says you have to be in the listening area to vote. So help Fleetwood Mac in this difficult battle to reach the sweet 16. And casta vote for Neil Young over Pink Floyd while you're at it.

As much as I love Fleetwood Mac, I seriously doubt that they would be able to beat either Hendrix or the Beatles. They're a great band, but c'mon! Even THEY wouldn't put themselves over Hendrix or the Beatles.

I unfortunately agree. In my choices I had them beat by Hendrix, that's for sure. I highly doubt they'd reach final four in any tourney, but I think 3rd round isn't too much of a longshot.

In our tournament, by the way, U2 upset the Beatles yesterday. It was a really big deal (And totally messed up my picks...)

The radio station where I used to live did this. When I lived there a couple of years ago Fleetwood Mac made it to the final four, I believe. (Probably thanks to me votes) They were up against Pink Floyd but they lost by about 10 votes, I think (even though I voted my ass off). The Eagles eventually won.

I just checked the station's website and for this year it looks like Fleetwood Mac beat The Doors and Sting in the first rounds, but lost against Bob Seger. ?? I like Bob Seger, but FM should have beat him. They would have been up against CCR which I think they could definitely beat. Too bad I'm not there to vote anymore
