I was thumbing through Time Magazine at the library today, and I came across an ad asking for support for "The Liberty Bill".
The idea came from middle school students, who suggested that an abridged listing of the Constitution be printed on the back of the $1 bill, one of the most widely-circulated currency notes in the world. I thought it was a good idea, and I thought some of y'all might agree... http://www.hanover.k12.va.us/lms/lib...ll/libbill.htm Last edited by Nixxxed; 11-13-2008 at 10:24 PM.. |

Sigh. In theory it sounds great. But who selects which excerpts go on the bill? How much is it going to cost to redesign it? With the exception of Rush Holt, the sponsors of this bill are all Republicans. I'd have a hard time getting on the same page as anything with Doc Hastings name attached to it. How about this: Why don't we fund No Child Left Behind so that our children actually learn about the Constitution instead of spending all of our money lining the pockets of Haliburton et. al and killing innocent people and making our dollar bill into yet another piece of propaganda for the phony patriots who currently wield power in this country? I'm really uncomfortable with the idea of our Constitution on a Federal Reserve note. Those two things should not be linked in my mind. It's like saying if you have this (the dollar) then you will also have this (constitutional rights).
Also, if you research the Federal reserve Board, you will see that many constitutional scholars find it to be in violation of the Constitution itself as the Fed is made up of 12 private banks and is not Federal nor a reserve. Originally our monetary system was based on gold and silver. Last edited by gldstwmn; 09-17-2004 at 10:47 AM.. |

As for cost, the mock-up that I posted looks pretty good to me, and that was probably done with PhotoShop, so I imagine it would cost far less than any of the other money changes that are going on - all those stupid state quarters and the new nickel designs I saw on TV yesterday. And the idea has more of an international eye, I think. Which is more important - that people who see a quarter know that Texas is the Lone Star State (after 22 years of living here, I still don't know what that means), or that people who see a dollar know that women in the U.S. can vote and be involved in the political process? And why does the Constitution on a dollar make you nervous, but that freaky pyramid-and-eye thing (that nobody will ever say what it really means) doesn't? But I agree about the Federal Reserve: what a pointless clusterf*ck! |

The eye and pyramid symbol is a nod to the Freemasons. I cannot recall the entire story right now off of the top of my head. I just don't trust these phony patriots who want to put this on the back of a dollar bill. I can see the international bent, however the implications of that could go either way. And as I said, since the Fed is neither Federal or a reserve, it could be said that the bills themselves are unconstitutional. I'm also not down with linking civil rights and dollars, know what I'm sayin'? ![]() |

I guess I just see it more as "cheap advertising" (notice I didn't say FREE) rather than granting foreigners certain inalienable rights. More of a "these are the rights you could have in your country too if you work towards them". I certainly wouldn't want it to be used as an immigration tool... As for who's sponsoring it, to me a good idea is a good idea, and I give credit where credit is due. Middle school students came up with the idea, and they're really the ones I'm batting for (even though they've probably graduated high school by now! ) The "phony patriots" you spoke of are probably only sponsoring it to make themselves look good, just like any politician. Not that I doubt your assessment of them, believe me.Also, I'd heard about the Freemasons being the inspiration for the pyramid-and-eye. I've also heard that it's a Wicca symbol and some other occult practice, but I forget. Regardless, I've always thought it VERY strange, especially after seeing all of those "In Search Of" shows about Egyptian mummy curses when I was a kid. And thanks for replying! I'm enjoying reading your views. |

As for the kids, bless their hearts. It is a good civics lesson. And the Freemasons and the Wiccans have many things in common. |
