Any John Irving Fans?

I looooooooooooooove his books. The Hotel New Hampshire is my favorite, it's hysterical. A Widow For One Year and Garp are right up there, too.

He's my absolute favorite. Garp, Cider House Rules, and Widow For One Year are all tied as my favorites for such different reasons.

I love his books.

Irving is awesome. Hotel New Hampshire is my favorite, followed by Widow for One Year. He writes women so well.

John Irving is fantastic. I have read Owen Meany many times, Garp, many times, Cider Rules twice, Fourth Hand once, Widow once, New Hampshire 3 times.

Alas, I could not get through Son Of The Circus, Setting Free The Bears, or 158 pound Marriage.

The man is a genius, though. Probably my favorite writer ever.

I loved Son of the Circus.

That's one of my faves. I didn't care for Cider House Rules too much; not for my tastes.

Has anyone seen the movie for Hotel New Hampshire? Not as good as the book, but it was pretty good!

I went to rent it at the video store once, and they didn't have it anymore. I would still like to see it.

I liked the Hotel movie, though I thought Rob Lowe was miscast. Of course Jodie Foster was flawless.

Damn, I have tried the Circus book twice, and it bores me to stopping by about page 100. Maybe it is the crazy Indian names...I just find it so hard to slog through. Not much plot movement, and the humor seems off. Maybe, just for you D, I will give it one more shot !

You can get the DVD dirt cheap.

Try half.com, I saw it there for a dollar once. The video is probably fifty cents.

You have to get through the first 150 pages or so for it to really get good. It's sort of like the Custom House preface in The Scarlett Letter, it's rather dull and pointless.

Rob Lowe was okay, but I LOVED the movie as a whole. I didn't like how they made Susie the Bear so beautiful; it kinda defeated the purpose of having her wear the bear suit.

I had a really hard time with it as well, I think I started it and gave up on it at least three times. Once I forced myself to get with it, though, I didn't regret it. About halfway through was when it kicked in for me, and I did enjoy it.

Definitely not a favorite, though.
