Christine's Final Songbird with FM
The last night of the Dance tour - Landover MD 11-30-97
Sorry about the first minute or so, the camera is all over the place. But it's still kinda a cool listen/watch. Nostalgia-Chris at its best.... get out your Kleenex CMV fans... :-) http://www.veoh.com/videos/v309563FWQStyPE

Ah, the last "Songbird". It's gets me everytime. I love Chris' & Mick's extra long hug at the end. I have this entire show on DVD...the last, true Fleetwood Mac concert.
By the way, can anyone make out what she says at the very beginning when introducing the song? Right before, "This speaks for itself". I've played it back numerous time & I just can't hear what she said. Here's another "Songbird", from the Mirage video. http://www.veoh.com/videos/e160454DY...e=similarVideo Last edited by macfan 57; 03-18-2007 at 05:39 AM.. |

She def. says Mick, John, Stevie, and LB. Then I think she says thanks. Then, the song speaks for its self.
I somehow imagined more interaction between John and CM though and, perhaps Stevie and CM. But, they were onstage at the time and it is hard to be raw up there. |

Lovely.
It's just a shame people always seem to feel the need to holler all the way through such a quiet, beautiful song.

The big hug at the end was very touching.

There was some interaction between Chris & John after Farmer's Daughter, which came right after Songbird. |

Well, the cheering at the beginning scared the **** out of my own little songbird, Nelly. Gotta remember to turn the sound down on these speakers...
She sounds great. I like it better than the Dance DVD performance. It's got more heart. What do want to bet she walked offstage and said "fûck, I'm glad that ****'s finally over with! Home to London, boys!" |

Well, that totally made me cry. I was just listening to Songbird earlier today, and it's always a tear-jerker, but that version in particular.. damn. Thanks for posting.

I have a feeling you're right about that. I sense alot of relief in that hug with Mick.

That's what it sounded like to me, at least something like "I love you guys so much."
As for the camera problem, I'm sure that the person operating the camera was trying to get to a place where he or she could get Christine's piano in the frame, and I'm glad they did, because I always enjoy being able to watch a piano player's hands. It's just amazing to me that this footage exists at all. A big thank-you to those brave souls who risk having their equipment confiscated (and possibly not returned) by venues with rules against such taping. "Songbird" is such a lovely song. But I thought it was always brave of the group to end a show with it. The conventional thinking in rock concerts is to end with an uptempo number to send the audience home on an up note. Maybe they were just trying to calm down all the obnoxious noisy drunks in the audience by making this their final number of a show.
