Default Camper Van Beethoven - Tusk remake album – how is it?

Did anyone ever buy, or at least hear, the remake of the whole Tusk album (by Camper Van Beethoven). Is it any good?

It's awesome, interesting and I love it and often listen to it.
It's definitely alternative music. So if that is not your cup of tea, you probably won't like it.

Love it. But there's a strange lack of energy when you hear it back to back. It's best savored in bits. Love the version of Brown Eyes, which is weird and kind of sexy at the same time.

Thanks for bringing this up! I've been meaning to listen to it. I've never heard any of it before. You can listen to the whole album once for free on LaLa:

Thanks for posting that! I'm just finishing up the album. Something I'm finding extremely interesting is that they took songs that were inherently angry and snarky (such as What Makes You Think You're The One), and made them soft and beautiful... while making soft and beautiful songs such as Brown eyes angry and snarky! I actually like they kind of made a farce of songs like Sara... which inherently take themselves too seriously. Their Sisters Of The Moon TOTALLY had me cracking up! I must say, I find their more literal translations of Storms and Walk A Thin Line very enjoyable. I actually find the whole album very fun and thought provoking. Even if it wasn't their intent, the whole thing makes a huge statement... and I like it.

It should also be noted that Camper Van Beethoven actually worked on this album to see if the band could work together, as there were personnel problems between them, which as some of you know the lead singer started another band, Cracker.

The Tusk reworking album was actually recorded and completed in 1986. The band got together to attempt a third album while on a holiday. While on holiday, the drummer broke his arm skiing, and while holed up there, it was discussed recording the Tusk album, which was part of only a handful of LP's they had in 1986 in the cabin. CVB was no stranger to covering other acts, they proved their knack for re-arranging material (by such acts as Black Flag and Sonic Youth).

The tapes were lost, but found in 2000. In 2001 they repaired/reconstructed the tapes and they deemed it worthy of a release, finally.

Exactly, elle, they made a legend of the story. But what the heck. It's a very interesting take on the whole album, both respectful and ironic, they understood the album and made fun of it. But all musically interesting. It's a coveralbum Lindsey could have made from an Elvis original, if he was forced to do it in a couple of days..

I love it.
