So this isn't a thread that's talking about songs you don't like, and also not like obscure FM songs but in general haunting songs from any era of the band. I got the idea from listening to Tusk and hearing someone say "real savage like" in the background. It just sorta freaked me out for some reason.

I think the alternate takes of GDW that I've been listening to more since the Deluxe edition came out are haunting.
Bermuda Triangle, Hypnotized are haunting. Sisters of the Moon. Obviously Rhiannon. Goodbye Angel to a certain extent, although Lindsey is playing around so much that it almost becomes camp. There is something in Miranda that has always reminded me of the song Angie Baby, about a girl slipping quietly into madness and I find it kind of haunting. I mean, thinking it has to do with incest and crimes in the night that are never punished or spoken about in the daytime, force and silence and forced silence. It just has an air of hurt and mystery to it, cloaked in that bedouin music vibe. She slips down the shade and lets herself drown. Michele |

Hmm, maybe these aren't "haunting" to me, but they gave me an eerie/ unsettling feeling. I love the songs though:

Agree! Also always thought "Make Me a Mask" was kind of eerie sounding.

In the Back of My Mind. A less OBVIOUS choice, (nothing tops GDW) but was an atmospheric , spooky, vibe for the Mac . if i recall correctly, they opened the BTM tour with this

SOTM - My sister doesn't like when I play it. She says the beginning gives her the creeps!

Sisters of the moon and Gold Dust Woman. They're both haunting in their way.

I'd have to say Brown Eyes. It is pretty darn eerie and haunting, if you ask me.

Empire State haunts me. I wake up in a sweat in the middle of the night with it playing in my head. Ding ding ding ding ding ding diddle diddle ding ding ding New York...aaaaaarrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhh
Um, Green Manalishi, Sisters of the Moon, Gold Dust Woman, I'm So Afraid. I'd throw in Not That Funny. Perhaps not strictly haunting but I do find it creepy in the same way clowns are creepy. Not That Funny could have been on a soundtrack for The Shining or something. |
