I actually like both of these songs tremendously.

I'll go with Not Make Believe being the most favorite only because I think I grasped onto Paper Doll so tightly due to longing for the FM that was, then, gone. That and the video that accompanied it probably makes me favor the song more than I ordinarily would have.

Oh dear... I love both these songs! I don't think I could vote for either of them.

I don't think "Paper Doll" has held up as well over the years as I thought it would two decades ago. I suspect the same will be true of "Not Make Believe", but I prefer her voice on that one, so I voted for PD.

Aside from the 'i am reeling, it hurts my feelings' junk in Not Make Believe, I really like the lyrics. And I like the overall theme of the song (or what I perceive it to be anyway hah).... so I voted for Paper Doll.

I felt the same longing when I first heard Paper Doll. That song, along with Love Shines, Make Me A Mask & Heart Of Stone on The Chain box set made me miss the Mac really bad. For me, these new songs were so much better than almost anything from Behind The Mask. I remember hiding my feelings of disappointment in that record, due to my loyalty towards FM & Stevie Nicks.

And I've always liked the TISL demo of Not Make Believe better than the SYW version. Something got lost in translation. When the bridge & chorus kick-in, the songs kicks ass, but the verses droop & languish. The musical arrangement in the verses also feels too sparse, and the cold beginning does not work well with Stevie's older voice. It accentuates the cold metallic sonic quality of her voice. Same goes for RTTG & DR intros.
