Is opening up for Rod Stewart a good move or bad move for Stevie Nicks?

The good thing is Stevie is being exposed to thousands of people who may not have ever gone to see her live. Like HejiraNYC pointed out in another thread, Stevie's truly putting on her A game for these shows too... she really has to work hard onstage to get Rod's fans to give a flip. She's kinda playing for a hostile audience, to be honest... she really has to give it her all to warm them over. The Edge Of 17 somebody posted the other day is a prime example of that. I haven't seen Stevie exhibit that kind of passion during Edge in over a decade.

Will touring with Rod help her sell copies of In Your Dreams? I'm just not sure about that.

Is it setting a bad precedent for her to open for another artist? Very possibly. I guess it keeps Stevie playing large audiences, which she seems to prefer.

In the end, I think this whole Rod thing will end up being good for Stevie. She's being pulled out of her comfort zone, and she's not acting lazy and disinterested onstage for the first time in YEARS! She's being exposed to thousands who may never have chosen to go see her live. She's playing her new song for people who may never have listened to it before, and that just might incite a few album sales. Stevie isn't just preaching to her own choir for once, she's actively exposing herself to new folks. I was pretty opposed to the idea of Stevie and Rod touring together at first, but I'm really coming full circle on that. I think it might be just what the Dr ordered for Stevie!

She is not exactly getting steller reviews for these concerts? I have read a bunch of reviews. One reviewer completely ignored her altogehter. I don't know if people are reading the reviews or not, but it made me come up with this poll. Rod is coming off as the hero.

it's a wake up , she needs to step it up or she could be opening for some 20 something lip syncer,.. or touring with REO Speedwagon , and STYX I see this as a good thing and hopefully she will leave this tour and go into her Headlining tour with a new appreciation and understanding of her career you can't get by on calling it in, and cover songs don't always cut it and you can be over rehearsed, it makes her look bored ,.. she need to be a little "Foot Loose and Fancy Free"

I think you nailed it when you said ," over-rehearsed " ! I love Stevie to death but, every wave, twirl, and sentence is the same in every concert. I think like Rod when it comes down to it, if a mistake is made then so be it ! I like that attitude. I think she would enjoy herself more if it were like it was in the old days when nothing was rehearsed ! She's great, her band is great, just let in happen naturally !

i can understand y some ppl would say it's a good thing. especially w/ her new album coming out and she may reach a new audience.

imo...........i kinda feel that she shouldn't be opening for ANYONE. she's STEVIE FUKCING NICKS!!!! it should be an honor to open for her. she's paid her dues times 10! since when you don't bow down to the Queen?

now...........another thing..........i don't know if it's accurate to say that she's OPENING for him too. it's it THEIR tour? si or no? clear me up on that. oh and y is he her "superior"? cause he's been in the game longer? he's older? i'm not taking it as a negative statement, just wondering.

i'm only going to see her anyway on April 6th, MSG! i'm not a fan of him at all. if they do duets........i might stick around.........i kinda doubt if i will stick around just to see him tho.

As one of the "old guard" Stevie fans I can tell you she has never been popular with the critics. There are years and years worth of reviews that have been either dismissive or downright hostile. It doesn't matter, Stevie has always had the public on her side. The people love her, her fans love her and have always supported her.....and don't give a rats ass what some critic has to say.

I think it is good that it is taking her out of her comfort zone and pushing her to be better. I almost think this may make her realize that she can change up her setlist and spice it up with her own headlining tour, since her fanbase would be much more receptive than this one, which seems pretty receptive to her now even with the numerous non-hits she is doing. My only fear is that this may prevent her from getting out there and really touring behind this album on her own.

I've been around for a long time, as well. I agree with the fact that critics have not been kind to Stevie over the years, but since the Dance Tour, most of her live reviews have been positive.

Maybe psychology is playing a part in the current mixed tour reviews. Primarily the fact that she is the opening act. I also keep reading about the mixed (Rod vs. Stevie) crowd reactions, as well as Stevie's skimpy stage set. Most critics aren't the "brightest bulbs" around anyway. As long as the music/voice sounds great and she's singing with passion...that's all I care about.

I do agree with Louie. This short tour should keep Stevie on her toes, which is a good thing.

Although I don't think she should be opening for anyone, being that were still in such a bad economic state, people want more bang for their buck, and this tour offers that. (Except for the 2 price-inflated Hollywood Bowl shows- $300 plus is top TM price.)

I also agree with Louie's points about Rod helping her step it up a little and be more free in her performance. But I also worry about this tour invading the chance if her doing more shows solo. The more time that passes, the more I worry about her not doing a true solo tour. :[
