Default Discuss: I Don't Wanna Know

What do you think? Is it a hidden gem? A waste of space? A throwaway tune? A fun little ditty?

I'm a sucker for any song with clapping (Jack & Diane, Take the Money & Run...) so that automatically makes me a fan. I think I remember reading that Stevie said this was an "I don't care" song, that it didn't have any deep or hidden meaning and that she wasn't really emotionally attached to it. I believe that she would have preferred this song taken off of Rumours rather than SS, but it's obviously much shorter, so length may have been an issue. Of course, add SS and remove this, and you've got a damn dark record, IMO.

I was a bit surprised when the live Buckingham Nicks version surfaced. I honestly thought this was written later. The whole "you tell me that I'm crazy" and "you say you love me but you don't know" reeks of the breakup to me. Of course, who's to say that this tune is about LB at all. If it is, I think we can safely assume that they didnt have a perfect relationship.

I love the harmonies, esp. on the "whoa's." And I can't tell you how long I got this line wrong:

I don't want to know the reasons why
Love keeps right on walking down the line

I always thought it was "...reasons why I love you, I keep on walking...)

i totally adore IDWTK. i think it's a great, breezy, cali-pop tune with awesome harmonies. stevie really shows her ability to blend her voice with others' and also her knowledge of two-part harmony. she really is musically talented. obviously not instrumentally, and not vocally in a conventional way, but when it comes to pop, she is brilliant.

rumours would be so different without this song. as p said, it would've been so dark without it ... IDWTK adds much-needed levity and totally changes the overall emotional landscape of the album. imo, SS is one of stevie's masterpieces, but i am glad it was left off the original album. it never would have had the same impact on the dance had it been on the original release.

Yeah, I sort of picked up on that with "hate gave you me for a lover."

I love this song!! I can see where SN would have gotten pissed at MF for making the decision to put this song on Rumours over SS, but I really do think it's a nice little ditty. I love how they are singing together on the whole song. I mean, who came up with that brilliant idea??? (I am serious! I think it's brilliant!)

I want to say that don't really care for the BN live version of IDWTK, but I don't want to jinx myself and not have any more BN live tracks resurface, so I never said that.

Its a throw-away tune. I don't like this song at all. In fact, its only second to "Don't Stop" as my least favourite song on "Rumours"

Well, it doesn't help that it is on "Rumours" - I seriously cannot listen to the album anymore...

It's a catchy little tune and I've always preferred it to "Silver Springs."

The studio version of the latter tune never sounded right to me. It has a quality that I can only describe as "hollow." The vocals and the instrumentation are entirely too light and don't quite convey the impact of the lyrics. Even Lindsey's guitar playing (*gasp*) seems somehow sub-par to me. So as much as I enjoy "Silver Springs" from The Dance, I'm thankful that it was relegated to non-album b-side status in the Rumours days.

Have you ever heard the DVD-A version in 5.1 surround? I'll never forget the night I brought my new system home and got it all hooked up and plopped that into the player. I skipped right to SS and bawled the whole way thru ... it was pure gooseflesh. But I know what you mean about sounding hollow (I'm thinking the version on The Chain box set,) I agree. You have to hear the 5.1 remastered version and suddenly hollow takes on a new and quite lovely meaning.

Nope. I'm weird. I'll spend untold amounts of money on CD and DVD box sets, out of print discs, special editions, etc. But when it comes to the actual electronics that play them, I just buy whatever's cheap. No 5.1 surround sound here.

Wait, I thought it was "Fate gave you me for a lover"

I like this song a lot, it's fun to sing, has a good beat, you can dance to it. It seems really normal, and is, but that super clappy tight harmony even beat and phrasing - I mean, it's so even - kind of makes it special.

Out of the four songs in it's category, It is my third favorite. The category is "normal songs that are cool, and have good harmonies and good beat, but are regular" - whatever - The other songs in the category are:

Monday Morning (#4, for me)
Second Hand News (#1, or tied)
Blue Letter (#1, or tied. I love me some Blue Letter)
IDWTK (#3)

Does that give a better idea of what the category entails?
I am also a sucker for clapping. And fast even songs.

If anyone else can totally see why I put all these in the same category, holla. No, I mean HOLLA. What with this board, I'd be suprised if someone understood my theme here, and would want to know.

The transcriptions of the lyrics that I've read have it as "hate," but "fate" does make more sense.

After I heard or read Stevie make that comment about how it's their Everly Brothers-thing, or whatever, then I really listened to it again. and found that I really enjoy their voices together on this song. Made me wish they did that kind of thing more often.

It's ok. I 'm not crazy about it or anything but I don't usually skip it.
I also like clapping-songs and it 's a fun song to listen to.
And may I say that I think the SS and IDWTK comparison doesn't seem right to me, those songs fall into an entirely different category. I know that people tend to do that because IDWTK had somehow "replaced" SS on the original release, but other than that, the comparison is pretty unfair IMO.
