Default Silver Springs on Rumours

Had Silver Springs been on Rumours would it have been the number one album of all time (in your opinion)?

Well, the reason I ask this is because-was it just the visual of stevie pointing her finger and tossing lindsey dirty looks that captured the essence of the song and made it so popular, or would it had been just as successful without the video and made rumours even more popular. I know there is really no way to answer this, but just your opinion.

also, I almost posted this in stevie forum, but I knew everyone would say "of course!!! " teehee..and I wanted a more unbiased approach. I personally thought It probably would have since it has more to it than "I don't want to know" but just for sh*ts and giggles

Have you ever heard the two live recordings of it from that era. It puts The Dance version to shame with the intensity. Oh for a video!!!!!

Even the recorded demo endings that we heard with the re-release were awesome, never mind how awesome they were live. IMO. I think it would have been a hit, and I think Rumours would have sold just as many, if not more. Chicks love the whole "never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you" thing.

Before the album was released, "Silver Springs", despite being the single's "B-side", got nearly as much airplay as "Go Your Own Way". But, no, I don't think it would've changed sales numbers that much had it been included on the album. I mean, how much MORE popular could it have gotten? Even the band itself still thinks its their only album after nearly 30 years.

I DO think it was a shame (and borderline criminal) that it wasn't included on the original CD release of Rumours as a bonus track, though.

I prefer "Ill follow you down 'til the sound of my voice will haunt you" part.

There's a classic rock station here in Maine that plays the original recording of Silver Springs from time to time. It also plays Lindsey's song, Trouble, and Bob Welch's Ebony Eyes. SOMEONE there is a FM fan!!

ok, so I actually had both of these. Kansas City and Milwaukee right?? I listened to both of them. I LOVE KC. I get chills on my legs, people!!! When she says "I KNOW I could have loved you" at about 3:31 in the song is awesome. The trill in her voice almost makes me cry.

Milwaukee wasn't all that. It was very slow and mournful. Not very "following you down-like" But on a high note of this version-I love stevie's use of "well" so much. She does it in other songs. It's like.."well..your ass better listen up because I'm getting ready to say something important!!!

well, to be fair to the milwaukee performance, i think that tape may be slowed down. in addition to being a slower tempo, it's also about a half-step lower.

If you could do that, I'd be eternally grateful! It's one of my all-time favorites of hers

Thanks! Martha

I dont think it would've been any more of a hit than it HAD already been. The mega success of that album is about as big as any artist could hope to achieve. I dont think the song itself would've been a radio "hit"...besides, it was available as a B-side back then. At any rate, its BACK on the CD version of Rumours, the way it should have been.
